I use wix, purolator or ford on my car. one of those orange filters will never see the likes of my engine bay.

There is some very interesting reading at bobistheoilguy.com on the subject. I was trying to find a report he did on filters years ago but I was not sucessful.

I used a fram filter once on the stang b/c walmart was sold out of motorcraft filters. The fram filter leaked terribly and when I finally took it off, the entire o-ring had separated from the filter. I think the tough guard line is ok, but anything lower than that is junk. The one I had problems with was an extended guard.

I have been running the tough guard series filters on my car for a couple years now without issues.

one of those orange filters will never see the likes of my engine bay.
Yeah, at least the Tough Guard line is grey not orange.

Fram is supposed to be crap.

I stick with Ford Motorcraft filters only. Supposed to be very good quality.

Think about it - Fram has an interest in selling cheap filters. Motorcraft has an interest in your car's warranty.

Fram = fail.

I wouldn't put one on my lawnmower.

Paper construction, adhesive failures...etc.

I have seen pictures of trashed engines due to FRAM failures on my motorcycle forum.

I run Purolator Pure One but others such as Bosch, Mobil 1, and K&N are generally considered to be of good quality on any scientific review website.

I did't know that. I use k&n on the stang but everything else I use fram without a problem. I hear wix is a good filter to

Purolator Pure One or Motorcraft. Good filters at a reasonable price. No Fram.

I've used Fram on my boat and cars for YEARS. I religiously change the oil and filter every 3k miles. Never had a problem and my engines always last forever. 1988 Ranger w/ over 220k miles and still going strong.

I've seen lots of studies that show they are made from cheaper materials. But I've never seen any study that shows they are inferior in cleaning the oil after 3k miles.

That has nothing to do with the filter. Just means you over tightened it.

Fram sucks though BTW. You get what you pay for

WIX or Motorcraft

check out this filter comparison. purolator, WIX, NAPA, Motorcraft are all good. Fram not so good.

There are Frams that do have anti drainback valves.

But, they are faulty... LOL
