Xcal 2 vs. local shop dyno tune and custom burned chip

I'm going to need a tune, and I'm not sure If I should spend the money on the XCal or take it to my local Mustang performance shop and get a dyno tune and a custom burned chip (430.00). Any thoughts?

w/ the 05+ I don't think you can get a chip...

even if you could... you want the SCT..... you can have 3 tunes.... loaded i.e. - different octane's or diff goal (race/street) and you can load them as needed.... however a custom dyno tune is def the best way to go IMO...get's the most from the engine.. and still have multi tunes

Other way around would be the most effective way to get the tunes that you want.

Just take it to your tuner and they will probably use an SCT to tune and then give it to you. But since your car is completely stock I would wait until you have a few mods. The dyno tune will probably not do much for you and will be a waste of money until you have more mods. Personally I would get a SCT from bamachips.com

Thanks Matt, I've heard nothing but good things about bamachips. I'm betting the tune after I add 4.10 gears, UD pulleys, CAI, Corsa x-pipe and axle back, as well as am alu drive shaft... All that with the tune... well it's hard to sleep thinking about it...

I would say that if you are planning on building it up quickly. Assuming you have the money to do so. Go ahead and get the chip last. But for someone like me who is a single income family don't overlook the benefit of getting a chip and being able to adjust everything that you buy for your car just by pressing a few buttons.

I know nothing of bama chips......

Well the chip would not be good for that then, because you have to get a new one burnt every time a new mod which is very expensive. I would go with an SCT from bamachips and then until u get mods you can have his race and performance and torque tune on 93. Once you get some mods, a few at a time then send what you go to bama and they will adjust your race performance and torque tune acordingly.

If it happens all at once or one mod at a time, It'll be done. Thanks for the input!

The SCT Xcalibrator 2 chip has a handheld tuner that allows you to adjust your car on your own without getting it reburned.....

Fine....

get the X2.... w/ the dyno tune.... if you can swing both @ the same time... should be in the $550-600 range... if not...get the X2 from a reputable shop... Brenspeed/Bamachips/Evolution.... with 3 tunes s/b in the $400 range....load in and have fun...... at any later time custom dyno tune w/ a shop using SCT software.. and they will replace on of the tunes in the handheld w/ the custom tune.....

I hope that makes sense

That definately sounds like the best route. The SCI is a valuable tool to have, and I can use the dyno tune for the best setup. Then with the SCI I can go back to that whenever I need to... Thanks!

I ordered my SCT and CAI from bamachips. Doug (Bamachips) is a great guy, I would definetly recommend that shop.

Also, when you reflash your computer, the SCT will store your factory settings, just incase you have to go back to the dealer w/ the car.
