u have a GT?

for 2k get some gears and good upper and lower control arms. and you'll be set.

if you have a GT you should toast him stock for stock anyway

2nd gear 55
3rd gear 80
4th 110-115
5th 140+

this is with the t-3650 tranny

i have a t-56 now :wink

i would go with 3.73 gears, long tube header, catless h pipe, stingers, cai, and an xcalibrator 2 and tune and you should eat him up!

Screw that, just put some 285's on the back and hammer it.

I used to own an srt neon. I remember it was really really fun. However, compared to my mustang, it was only a little ankle biter. Stock...the mustang is in a different class from the neon. So if your friend is only doing intake and exhaust, why would you need to spend mega bucks on "3.73 gears, long tube header, catless h pipe, stingers, cai, and an xcalibrator 2 and tune..." (no disrespect intended).

Traction is what you need. Upgrade all those other things after you finally achieve traction.[/i]

WTF is it with People thinking that 4.10's will kill the Top end on the S197's..
The gearing on the trannys and being a 5 speed drops the Calculated top end from 202 MPH to 168 MPH at 6800 RPM these cars are Limited by drag and power at around 155-160. I have had my Automatic GT up to 142 with still room to go with 4.10. These Cars love 4.10 heck I cut 4 tenths of the 1/4 with just 4.10's it's an awsome mod. if you have a manual you can see 12.9 easy with Gears, CAI, Pulleys and a tune. I am at 13.3 with these mods. and I know I can do better if "I" loose a few pounds. hehe

Watch out for those Skittles (Neons and Cobolts) with some mods those things are killers.

I wouldn't have thought you could make a neon as fast as a stock GT for less than 6 grand. I'm amazed to hear they can be that fast.

6 grand would put a SRT4 into the mid to high 12's

To make one as fast as a stock GT you need 3K

Just so we are clear. Stock for Stock the stang is much faster than an srt4. That is a 14.2 second car right? 0-60 in 5.4. CAI aint gonna have him faster than a stang.

Stock for stock, the GT should take a SRT-4 .
a stock SRT-4 can run as fast as 13.9
http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge-Neon-...slip-3009.html

Stock Mustang GT 13.6
http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustan...slip-4200.html

Dodge did a good job with that Skittle Motor, they dropped is because (IMO) Kids were getting them too fast and killing them selfs.
but a CAI will not make a big difference.

The Stage 1 Computer is 600.00
Boost controller ia 250.00
suspention (because FWD need traction ) 1000
CAI 250.00
Sticky tires Nittos or BFG 800.00

then he could beat you.

I had one (SRT4) an 05. I droped 5k into it, from stage 2 upgrade to full 3" turbo back exhaust and MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more. At the point it was at when I traded it in it would eat a n/a stang for lunch, hell for that matter in the 1/4 vettes were no problem, so long as I could hook up. It would pull mid to low 12's on a bad day (depending on air temp and humidity). SO I guess my point is even stock (srt4) w/o a staged upgrade is a damn fast car, and a stock stang would have a fight (power-weight issue).
But Im glad I traded in the srt4 and got the stang. Best decision I ever made. At 40yrs old I got tired of being looked at as a little boy racer.

I guess that's true... if you get a REALLY good price somewhere you could get a blower stuck on there that could boost it up to 470 for probably more like 6k... but then you still have stock wheels, tires, and internals!

Mike,

When you called the SR4T a neon, where you referring to the dc'd model, or sarcastically referring to the new Caliber?

Dodge's website puts the Caliber at 170ish horsepower. This article describes something very different. SR4T is Dodge's racing devision badge isn't it.

What is this article talking about???
