HOME MADE CAI

i have a mustang modular racing cai that kept throwing off a cel,it has a 9"conical filter and an 89 mm maf housing ,no tune ,so i got a 80mm maf housing from a stock airbox and installed the filter to that and it ran for a while then set off cel,i have a 2006 gt any sugestions before i put back the stock box that i had ? i dont want a tune right now and this in theory should be working ,volume of air vs, velousity

If the inlet tube on your "home made" CAI is larger in diameter then the factory inlet tube you will throw codes.this is why all CAI require a tune after install except for K&N.They leave the inlet tube the same and push as much air by the MAF(with their great breathing filter) as what the computer will allow.

If you are using the factory inlet tube & its throwing codes then you should put it back to stock and save your dimes & nickels for a CAI.

CAI

, I GOT IT TO WORK AND NO CEL,NOW IHAVE TO BUY A HEATSIELD FROM JLT IN VA. THERES FILL FIT PERFECT ,BECAUSE HE USES THE SAme exact filter i have 9" conical ,open end ,made by s&b, the problem was when i cut the housing from the top of the stock box i used a hacksaw which was stupid i should have found a friend with a table saw,but i didnt anyway i cut it on angle the bottom was slanted about 1/2 on inch in from the top ,so i put the filter on evenly WRONG!!! I needed to put the filter all the way in until it touched the where the actual sensor goes intp the housing and WHALLA!!!! worked great drove 5 miles turned the car off and stated back up no cel before this is where in went on the cel, so i drve 5 miles three more times and turned the car off an on three more times and NO CEL!!!! IM A SMALL GENUIS LOLOLOLLOLOLO
