I need your cleaning help.
I ordered my car with the extra factory undercoating, as at the time I was buying my Mustang, I wasn't sure if I would be able to afford a third car in the family, even if it was just a winter beater, and was going to have to throw some snows on my Stang and drive it all year.
Once I got the car, I realized the error of my thinking, and knew there would be no way I was going to be driving this car in the salt & snow. So now my car has that thick, sticky factory undercoating under the hood, inside the doors, under the car, you name it, which I guess is great as it will protect the car that much longer, but I would like to remove it from the surfaces in the engine compartment and start dressing things up under the hood. And I haven't the foggiest clue on what to use that will remove it without damaging the paint. Anyone ever done this, or have any ideas ?

Sorry, every method I'm aware of to remove it would require you to repaint afterwards. Undercoating is tough stuff and takes serious abrasives or chemicals to get it to let go. While that's good if you want it to stay, it does make removal difficult.
Wish I had better ideas for you. |

I would go to home depot and try a product called goof-off. It can remove drips of paint off of a fiberglass bathtub . Takes a little elbow grease but didn't seen to harm the original finish. Good luck. BTW Zippee I was just up in Canada last weekend and had the opportunity to meet one of the owners of RM restorations and got the full tour. They have some amazing vehicles in there.I saw the only vehicle ever made by Daimler that is worth 6 million . I did get to see a 69 428 cobrajet mach 1 in there but it was probably the cheapest car in the place lol

I would not use a needle scaler on sheet metal, I have one on my boat and we use it for heavy rust removal and when we are welding, it removes the slag really good. It would put dents in sheet metal, it's a real agressive tool....JM |

I hear that. I think perhaps roush was figuring I would be taking it down to bare metal, which I may wind up doing in the future if I can't get it off. I'll hopefully figure something out eventually before having to do that, but I've done it before, so I'm not shy about yanking the engine out to get it done. I have a buddy with a shop and an engine hoist to do it if it comes to that. I'm going to try a few things tomorrow. Yesterday I couldn't find the goo-off Norm suggested up here, so I'll get when I'm down in the states next week.

yea it really is good stuff.
(i wonder what ppl are thinking about the sudden change of topic) but only on surface cuts. if you get in the deep tissue it can cause Dermatitis.
