Cant find oil for my 07
I've been to 3 auto stores in Omaha and none sell the 5W-20 full synthetic as rec in the manual. Actually the manual calls it "premium synthetic". I need 6 quarts. It says to do it at 5K miles. Any idea on where to get it other than online w/shipping ? I'm thinking premium synthetic means full synthetic.

yes it means full synthetic.
Omaha is a big place bro... might want to give us a town or something so we can do some research on who carries it

Mav, thanks for the plug for mobile 1. I went to their web-site and they claim...
Mobil 1 5W-20 is a high performance fully synthetic engine oil designed to exceed the industry's toughest standards and outperform all conventional oils. Mobil 1 5W-20 is engineered to help keep your engine running like new and extend engine life. Mobil 1 technology has been selected as original equipment by leading car builders such as Chevrolet Corvette, Cadillac, Mercedes Benz AMG, Porsche, Dodge Viper, and Dodge Ram SRT 10. Not too bad at all. Thanks !

Mobil One is some good stuff. Check out this website:
www.performanceenginemath.com This is my uncle who lives close to Nashville, TN. They do testing on many motor oils and Mobil One is the only oil he'll use in his cars. |

Full synthetic doesn't break down near as quick as a blend. It really is good stuff. You're not supposed to run synthetic through the car until it is fully broke in- usually at least 3K miles is what Ford recommends.
My GT500 came with full synthetic from the factory. |

??? The dealer where I bought the car ? I wouldn’t trust those high school drop out MF's in their garage with my recently departed grandmothers ashes in about 10000 years.

Not exactly a ringing endorsment for your dealer. Didn't necessarily mean letting them change the oil for you but just buying your oil and filter and doing it yourself. I guess you'll be better off at the local Wal-Mart anyway. More choices and better prices.
Usually a speed shop or some type of automotive retail chain sells premium synthetics. Is it really that tough to find ?

Wallmart has Mobil One..
Pep Boys has Royal Purple and Napa Auto Parts has Amsoil. All three are very high quality Synthetics and work great. Just make sure you get 5W 20 and a High Quality Filter, WIX, K&N or Mobil One are top choices All Years will support Full Synth oil. but ford likes to play it safe with new motors. in 05 it was Dino only 06 was Semi Synth and 07 Full Synth yet all three year motors are the same ?? hmmm just doing some CYA thats all.

I Post Entirely Way Too Much
|
my 07 came with a synthetic blend and also says the same thing in the owners manual. i usually take it to the dealer to get the oil changed. it's only 30 bucks for them to do it. i'll probably end up starting to use royal purple and do it myself though.

Re: Cant find oil for my 07
I have allways changed my own oil till now, because it only costs $18,95 to have the dealer change it with 6 quarts of 5W20 Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft filter. I do this at 3.000 mile intervals getting the tires swapped front to back every other change as recommended. The dealer has a good record of your timley service intervals, and it does no harm dowm the road should you have a warranty issue, even though you would think it might not make a difference. Only my oppinion, you of course must do as you see fit. I hope you love your 07 as much as I love mine.

Note. A few years ago, Mobil 1 Synth dropped back to PAO Group III Base Stocks to save money and make an oil that would meet GM, Honda and Ford requirments for acceptable engine ware. Mobil 1 is made to be compatable to 90% of the autos in the world, and is 100% compatable with our cars. All the marketing hype has everyone wondering what to do. First if you have a brand new engine, run the current installed oil for at least 3000 to 4000 miles. This will "Set" your engine components. (Not! break in, bad word) Currently in the petroleum business there are different groups of oils I, II, III, IV, V, VI. Group I is old hat, stuff used in the 50's and back. They are not really avilable anymore to the general public. Group II is still around but being replaced by III and IV. What all this stuff means is that The currently available "Premium motor oils" are at least group III "Highly refined". These are last years media promoted "Synthetics". They are still petroleum products, but are so highly refined that they protect your engine to a point that unless you need "Extended Drain" (15,000 miles or more between oil changes, WITH OIL ANALYSIS!) you are fine using them. Groups IV and up are "True" synthetics. Manufactured from all kinds of Hydrocarbon molecules that I won't go into. The reason for these "New" products is mainly the requirement of major fleets that want extended drain intervals utilizing oil analysis programs. Texaco test products have actually gone 1 Million miles with proper maintenance. You don't need that. So, rathter than buy a Full synthetic at btween 8.00 - 20.00 per quart and changing it out in 3000 miles. Use a premium grade of oil (Major Brand Name) and follow the usual drain interval recommended by your engine manufacturer. As to protection of your engine, with the type of driving and drain interval you probably follow. The added protection of longterm Anti-Oxidation, Extreme low temperature, extended drain characteristics of the group IV and up is not needed. The protection af a major branded oil should be fine for your new engine. If you do use a full synthetic, remember, change your OIL FILTER at the recommended mileage, top off your oil when you do, run at least on full oil change of Synthetic thru your engine as a flush to get out the old oil, "Set" your engine first by putting at least 3000 miles on it. I recommend Castrol, Havoline or Mobil 1. Group III are fine. "true" synthetic oil base stocks are artificially synthesized (Group IV, V, VI). AMSOIL Valvoline SynPower Royal Purple Red Line Mobil 1 Extended Performance SYN3
