15-20 PSI
I was wondering what I would need to replace/rebuild on the new 4.6L to support that much PSI? Would probably run about 10psi as a daily driver but when i take it to the track i want to push it up some.
anyone have any idea. |

Pistons, connecting rods, rod bearings, etc., basically the bottom half of the motor. You can pretty much figure around 10 RWHP for every 1lb of boost.
Question is: Do you go 8lbs. of boost and stay stock (you would be ok) or go with an extra 2 psi and then push the stock internals. Or, as you're thinking, go with an extra 2 psi and build up the stock internals. Is another 20 RWHP worth the added cost? It's all a game. You can go faster if you're willing to spend the money. Personally, I'd go with a safe boost (8psi) and then put the additional money in the suspension and some upgrades to lighten the car. You'll be running faster quarter mile times this way than with the extra 2 psi. That is, unless money is not an object, and you can do both.... At that horsepower level, the next trick is getting the car to hook up at the track. |

i'm running 10psi on a whipple. not worried about my internals, if its got the ford name on it, and a very reliable and conservative tune but still delivering the power, i'm not worried!

running 11psi on my procharged 07 now. While I'd like to get a bit more out of it, I'll sit tight for now. Traction is already an issue, and I'm not building a dedicated drag car. I want a wicked street machine with reliability and showability. I think 450-500 rwhp on a street car is more than enough.

totally agree. 450-500 is streetable enough, anything larger than that, build a block!

Hmm...you guys are right. I guess I got a little power hungry. Im better off putting the money into suspension work. I think I will just stick with around 11PSI.

ya whipple and kenne bell are the only ones im really considering...its a hard choice though.
I thought the valet bypass valve was a pretty damn good idea. o and on a side note....does fordracing.com not work for anyone else? Under mustang performance parts. |

i prefer the whipple over the KB, i had a big big debate about that before I bought the whipple and decided on whipple over the KB for many reasons

reasons for not choosing KB
1. reports of KB kits breaking belt tensioners on the new 05+ kits (not once, but twice!) then having a fix for it, then the belt tensioners breaking again 2. people have reported leaking s/c oil from the blower itself 3. 100% NOT A FAN of the whole BOOST-A-PUMP. To me thats OVERPOWERING the STOCK fuel pump. More than what it can handle. yea its great when its running for now, then when it finally blows down the road, I dont feel like paying $500+ for another fuel pump. 4. Location of the air intake system. Absolutely not a fan of cutting the inner wall of the bumper for fitment of the air intake. KB claims that there is no way water can get in up there where it sits, i dont believe them. to me it sits too low, the engine bay is safer. 5. very agressive tune! 3 people ive spoken to on other forums have already blown their motors with a standard 8psi kit putting down 450+ hp, its not necessarily the power/boost these days with S/Cs on the new stangs, its 65% the TUNE! and based upon review from performance shops who have done the new KB kit installs and dyno, they claim the timing and other parameters of the tune are aggressive. once again, people are getting scared these days with the whole s/c the new mustang and worrying about buying forged internals! 8-10PSI is safe on your vehicle AS LONG AS THE TUNE IS CONSERVATIVE! If your tune is aggressive or more advanced, be on the look out for something to blow! anything above 12psi or aggressive tuning, build your block! reasons why I picked the whipple instead. 1. Shelby GT500 Twin Fuel pump! ready, tested and fitted for the whipple! no boost a pump crap 2. true complete kit! including all hardware, (ford racing thermostat, 2 core intercooler, ford racing zero degree spark plugs, piping, wiring, blower, etc.) some parts that KB leaves out 3. VERY CONSERVATIVE TUNE created and tuned by Whipple, Ford Racing and an engineer from the FORD factory!! 4. Tremendous power with RELIABILITY with stock internals in mind, thats why they brought in a Ford engineer from the factory to tune the blower! 5. Your getting the FORD name on the blower! 6. Its like having an 03 cobra or Shelby GT500 from factory once you bolt it on! 7. Looks stock!! 8. Some Ford Dealers or dealers that sell Ford Racing Parts WILL HONOR THE WARRANTY ON YOUR VEHICLE, if the blower is installed by them! Be sure to talk to your dealer before doing the install. |

Not sure how many miles you have on your car or if you are even worried about the warranty but installing a Whipple Ford Racing or FRPP SC invalidates your new vechicle engine warranty.

I should have added that this was pointed out to me today by a Ford dealership and if you go to http://www.fordracingparts.com and look up the SC that fits your car you will see a statement under "tach notes" that states your warranty will be invalidated.

I've purchased the extended warranty to 70,000 miles, i put the blower on @ 18,000 miles. I now have 25,000 miles. I am fully covered BY my dealer if something goes wrong with the car with the blower and supplied tune by ford racing. and yes I have it in writing!! as I had mentioned above, if you read section#8 "8. Some Ford Dealers or dealers that sell Ford Racing Parts WILL HONOR THE WARRANTY ON YOUR VEHICLE, if the blower is installed by them! Be sure to talk to your dealer before doing the install." i checked with my dealer before buying it, they gave me the ok, bought it, had it installed, I'm covered! |

go on another website where they are selling the saleen blower, it will tell you the same exact thing that it invalidates your warranty! but if you go to a saleen dealer and have the s/c installed by them, your warranty is covered by saleen! |
