Mustangs Shelby Vs. Terminator Shootout

I guess they want to final settle it and save the Gt500's rep.
Mustangs Shelby Vs. Terminator Shootout

This is also posted in 99-04 for the terminator guys.

Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Shelby vs. Snake Shootout
MM&FF is looking for the baddest 2007-up Shelby GT500s to compete against 2003-2004 SVT Cobras.

Rules are as follows:

-All vehicles must fall into two categories—2007-newer GT500 or 2003-04 Cobra.

-Stock style suspension only. Solid axle transplant OK for Cobras.

-Full Interior. Racing buckets OK as long as there are two front seats, rear seat removal OK if carpeted/upholstered properly.

-Four-valve engines only—any modifications. Vehicles must be equipped a factory-based engine. That means 4.6L for the Cobras and 5.4L for the Shelby entrants.

-Any supercharger, nitrous and methanol injection OK.

-Any 28x10.5 non-W tire or up to 325mm drag radial.

-T-56 or TR-6060 transmissions only.

-Must have ALL NHRA required safety equipment, racing license per applicable elapsed time/mph for runs made on the day of the event. People who show up without the proper equipment will be immediately turned away. Do not enter send in an application if you do not have everything that you need to run. If you’ve run 10.20 and go in the 9s at the event, you will be required to have all applicable license and safety equipment.

-Must have full exhaust. Mufflers required and all cars must pass Englishtown’s noise restrictions. No bullet-style mufflers allowed. This is a very strict matter for us. If you think your car is too loud, it probably is. There will be no exceptions if a car is too loud.

Submissions must include the following:

• Pictures of the exterior, interior and engine.

• Detailed information about your car, including dragstrip times, and a list of modifications. Dyno information is optional. This does not mean that you have had to race at a track before, but it helps.

• Your contact information, phone numbers, email, etc…

Lastly, the event will be held early May in Englishtown, New Jersey at Raceway Park, MM&FF’s home track. More information about the event will be given out once the submissions have been tallied and competitors have been chosen. Shootouts are generally a one-day event and are held on a weekday, with the day following the event usually reserved in case of inclement weather.

Send all submissions to steve.baur@primedia.com, or snail mail them to Primedia, 9036 Brittany Way, Tampa, Florida 33619, Attn: Steve Baur.

Thanks and good luck,

Steve Baur
Associate Editor/MM&FF

I would love to be at the competition though...Spectator

Reminds me of grade school. "My dad can beat up your dad". I have a GT500 and have no intention of trying to prove the car to anybody. Either one of the cars with the right mods, tunes, etc. could probably run fairly close.

I doubt that Ford Motor Company would advertise the Shelby as the "most powerful and most capable Mustang ever built" if it weren't the case. Not to take anything from the Terminator's - they are bad ass rides, but with enough money and mods you could make a Ford Taurus a car to be reckoned with on the track.

What's the point?

If you want to see what car comes out on top, they should be competing bone stock.

My dad was a Boxer so I love to see him fight. LOL. I see your point and agree about modding any car but if you like tropical fish then you go to an aquarium...If you like Cobra SVT and Shelby you go to a meet like this.

If I didn't like the Shelby Cobra, I wouldn't of bought one.

I think the meet would be a lot of fun. Pissing contests are fun to watch. But like I said, if you want to see which car is superior, then run them bone stock. That would be fun to watch also.

I think the point is- bone stock the GT500 will prevail over the Terminator. I think the question is which is a better motor to accept mods. That appears to be the talk...ultimate capabilities without blowing the block...again no question about stock.

Tropical Fish??? Aquariums????? What the hell are you talking about.

I'd like to see this race. I don't care which one is superior out of the box, or which one is superior modded. Whatever the case, there's going to be a lot of high horsepower newer model street racers all in one place. Personally, I'd rather have the Shelby. Even if it turns out to be slower modded, it's still way more appealing to the eye then the Terminator (how did it get that stupid name anyway).

Is this a straight race or a road race?

drag race.. SVT codenamed the cobra "terminator" because it was built to "terminate" the rivalry between the camaro, trans am, and mustang

and how can you say the shelby is more appealing to the eye? of course it is an unbelievable car, but the terminator just has a sexy shape to it.. but to each his own...

umm i don't know... because it terminates most cars fairly easily ?

(mind you Shelby guys... i love the cars so please don't take this the wrong way)

think about it...

the Terminator is only shy of the new GT500 by 2/10's in the 1/4 stock for stock.

the Terminator is only 390 HP (underated)
to the shelbys 500HP (also underated )

the terminator was built better.

the Shelby is meant to be a track whore...

Yeah but given the abuse the word Terminator has taken in pop culture since the movie Terminator, you'd think they'd have found something less cliche.

As far as the appearance of the S197. I say it's gorgeous with conviction. Before the S197 came out I was toying with modding the shit out of an old miata or saving money another year for the Lotus Elise, a used Boxter, a Z4, or a Japans turbo 4x4. I would never in a million year have bought any american car before the S197. When the 2005 came out I thought it was as gorgeous as most european supercars. I had to have one. My girlfriend is an educated asian chic who loves to play bad girl, and she loves being in this car (she bought the thing for me in Dec 06). We took our first road trip down to Monterey last weekend, and ate lunch at a roadside seafood dive. She said she felt like she was in a commericial for Ford. It thumbs and vibrates on occasion but I love this car. And I don't believe the design will be this good for another 20 years.

Oh, and it's f&^%ing fast stock.

Gay Bar....ROFL....What should I be taking out of that comment? The Road Runner was famous for only two reasons that I know of. The cartoon and the car. I don't get it.

But you clearly associate gay with bad, like every other self hating homosexual. It's ok man, just be you.
