Best Shifter? Hurst, MGW, Roush?
So I'm thinking about getting a short throw shifter and wanted to hear from you guys what's the best out there?
Seems like a lot of people are going with the Hurst, big name and all, I guess that makes sense, if I'm not mistaken the Hurst offers 40% throw length reduction... Next up is the MGW Shifter, obviously it's brand new and all, but I wanted to hear you guys opinion on it, anyone has used one or installed one, it's throw can be changed to be between 15% and 50% shorter than stock. Last one, which I haven't heard ANYONE talk about, is the Roush shifter... it claims a 55% throw reduction, and I've felt one at my dealer, feels great. What's the concensus? btw, the extra $100 isn't a huge deal to me between the Hurst and the other two. Obviously any other shifters that I missed are welcome! Thanks! |

most people don't have the opportunity to drive cars with all the different possibilities. i have the steeda tri axe and i absolutely love it. seldom do i ever miss a shift and when i do it's because my foot is faster than my hand.

Hurst
I chose the Hurst because in over 30 years of playing with cars, they were allways there and kicked ass and still do. The Hurst short throw cost me $175.00 at Brenspeed but apparently they dont sell them any more.
I have only heard of the Steeda, and its all good. It just costs a lot more. It doesnt sound as though price is a real consideration to you on this. The Hurst is sweet right out of the box, each shift feels like cocking the hammer on my Ruger Super Red Hawk, and very positive. But it just looks good in the car, and goes with the retro style of the GT. |

I'm not particularly worried about the price cuz I figure if it's only gonna cost me $100 more to get something that's the best, the go for it... I really should be more concerned with it, college student w/ part time job, but for something like a shifter that you directly use hundreds of times a week, I would hate to settle for less than the best for such a small price difference.

After doing the research I decided to go with the PRO 5.0.
No complaints here. Shifts nice and smooth, much better than stock. Instructions were good and installation was straight forward. I would buy it again.

Hey krispyrob
I have the Roush short throw shifter. I did have the B&M before that and I thought it was ok until I found out that the the ford dealership that put the B&M instead of the Roush like I asked for. They ended putting in the Roush after I got pissed at them and I would not go back. The Roush is very smooth and tight, very easy to shift. The B&M short throw shifter was a piece of shit compared to the Roush. The only draw back to the Roush is the price. |

I've had a B&M before and thought it was good untill I drove a friends who had a Hurst. I now have the Roush short throw and it seems eerily similar to the Hurst. Not sure if they are one in the same but they seem very close. I like the Roush I have now cause of the feel and the look. I don't miss gears. If I were you I'd go with the cheaper of the two which is probably the Hurst.

I have only felt the MGW. I had decided on that 1 before I felt it, just from reading all the feedback on different sites. Didnt get to drive it just sat in it and went through the gears, felt awesome. Ordering an MGW in a few days for myself
