Electric water pump questions?
Does anyone know of a comprehensive link that explains electric water pumps?
I'm guessing they aren't a good idea with underdrive pulleys. Why does my mechanic say they are only a benefit in drag racing? What does this mean to me since highway rolling races are neither true drag races nor road races? |

i dont know about the drag racing, but i think the water pump and pulleys work better with eachother, as a matter of fact brenspeed sells them together as a package

the point in an electric water pump is to keep from taking power from your engine to drive the pump. by adding an electric water pump you are sending the power you saved and adding it to the rear wheels where it matters most. the pulleys will work when used with the electric water pump. it is the same principal. less power used to spin the parts and more power to the wheels

Yeah, but if you underdrive the electrical system, and the water pump is an additional drain on the electrical system, will the battery still receive enough power to stay charged? What if it's a hot summer day and I'm running the A/C and playing some loud music?

people have been using ud pullies for a long time and haven't had any issues. if i weren't planning on a supercharger i would've bought them already.

E H2O pumps work very well for 2 specific applications.
1-If you are running a supercharger with 8# or greater boost then you also run a risk of throwing a belt. An E pump will continue to circulate water giving you the ability to either make it home or to a safe place without your car overheating. 2-If you drag race, cool engine temps mean lower et's. You wire up a manual switch to your e pump and to your electric fan. This allows you to quickly cool your entire motor between runs while your motor is off with the flick of a switch. They work good for n/a street applications also and will not drain the electrical system when used with underdrive pulleys. However, there are no real gains that justify the cost.
