header install

hey, quick question, i am considering putting bbk shorty headers on my 07 and was wondering 1-how long does it take and 2- is it a headache to install? i read about the install in mustang monthly and they said it takes about 6-7 hrs. and is fairly easy, any truth in that?

What is your reasoning for installing shorties. Not to insult your intelligence but the only gain you'll get from installing shorty style headers is to enhance the appearance of your engine compartment. Now if thats you intention then go right ahead. ONe thing to consider with shorties is they are almost always more cramped becuz of all the tubing they try to fit in such a small area, so the install may even be more difficult than installing longtubes which will give gains in performance. Either way you go I wish you the best of luck on modding your mustang.

The installation is easy yeah it will take from 4-7 hours depending on how fast u r with the tools and all... I dont like the shorties cause they dont do anything performance wise I would get some L.T but those r my opinions....

im using the shortys because i already purchased a highflow catted x pipe and dont want to swap that out. dyno results in mm mag showed a 18 rear wheel torq gain and a 10 rwhp gain at 3000 rpm on a basicly stock 06, which is pretty good, not to mention the fact that ill be sc'd in the next week which would improve that number further.

I did a long tube header set up on my 07 with two friends and it took just under three hours. The biggest bitch is honestly just loosening the monster bolt that you need to remove to slide the steering rack out of the way to gain clearance to drop out and in the driverside manifold. Trust me, having a buddy on a ladder over the top of the car and you or whoever underneath both loosening and tightening the header bolts and helping with placement of the gaskets, the time will go by really smooth. Once you're done you'll feel like you could do it again in half the time.

aren't the BBK's steel? i would go stainless for about the same cost.

there's a few reasons i like shorty headers.
  • bolt right up to stock cats. (pass inspection/stop)
  • stainless ones won't rust like the cast iron manifolds.
  • sheds about ten pounds of weight.
  • the ceramic coated ones lower temps around the headers (vs untreated ones). should help the cat's work at a higher temp.
i was looking at the ford racing shorties at around $400(stainless w/ceramic coating)
