Make catchcan/air oil separators or just vent filters?

So I want to stop the oil mist from sucking into my intake. Its not a lot but its there.

I have a home depot air compressor line drier that I used with great success on my old turbo miata, and I put that in on the pass side, but cant come up with a clean solution for the drivers side.

I was thinking of just getting 2 little filters and sticking them on the vents on the valve covers.

The pass side looks to be 3/8th. What is the drivers side? I was going to get 5/8th and hope for the best :lol I think it should fit.

BUT, does the crank case need the vacuum pulled? Will just using vents cause any issues?

Also, I was thinking that going to vent filters could also be good for power (I would bet not enough to really measure, but should in theory be there) because when the intake is pulling from the valve covers, even if the oil mist is removed, the air it sucks through is HOT. Really hot. Which would raise the temp of the intake air charge, which raises chance of detonation and hotter air is less dense=less bang on ignition.

Cool Ill do some digging. If anyone has any info in the meanwhile :)

Also, any thoughts on the block needing the vacuum or the thing about the hot air not being sucked into the intake?

Ok found a thread with some info

3/8th and 5/8th are the sizes and I need to vacuum caps of the same sizes.

What about the filter for the oil fill cap? I dont know if I want that, but what size is it in case? The thread I found that shows it, doesnt show what size it is.

You could have had more power if they were yellow. Everyone knows yellow means more power.

Why did you put a line dryer on the passenger side? No oil or crankcase gases come out of that side if you have a closed PCV system. That is the intake for your crankcase ventilation. The only oil mist you should be getting is from the Driver's side.

Now if you change to cam cover breathers, the flow will be reversed. Nothing coming out of the drivers side and everything coming out of the passenger side. The reason why some of us run an oil cap breather is to aid in the crankcase ventilation and prevent all of your crankcase gases from only having one outlet. Some of us will experience oil residue on the passenger side cover if you only have the one outlet. Having the oil cap breather helps relieve the pressure and prevents oil mist from dirtying up your engine compartment.

Im pretty much saying what Boss said again but what the hell... basically the PCV system is just circulating air. The passenger side sucks the air in and the drivers side blows that air and whatever blowby oil it caught with it back into the intake. Supercharged cars usually suffer from more blowby oil.

That being said a lot of people do the breathers because its an easier install and better look. Catch cans are known to still let blowby past them if not done properly. I myself am going with a catch can because I like the way they look and I want to be able to check the blowby every now and then and potentially see if there's anything in my oil or if there's an excess of blowby at any point and time.

I currently run all three breathers. I've also been pretty bad about cleaning the engine bay this year. As such I now have puddles of oil in the sparkplug valleys on the passenger side valve cover and oil spray along the entire outside of most components on the passenger side engine bay. It's also slowly creeping down the side of the engine bay and getting close to saturating the starter and other items. Time for some cleaning, it's everywhere.
I drive this thing 365 days a year, 50 miles a day to and from work. I downshift a lot (cause of most of the spray, probably) and haven't had the time to keep up with the cleaning. I'm hoping the catch can + breather setup will help. Because I'm not getting rid of the breathers. :)
