FRPP GTA or 5GT's? SLP LM's? What about drone?
Looking for feedback on the comparison of drone and sound quality between the FRPP GTA and 5GT axel-backs. I am concerned about drone but want a nastier snarl than I get from the stockers.
I am also thinking that the 5GT's will sound "ricey". Not sure why, but I am. It is probably just the looks on the Ford website. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=7707 They look suspiciously like something I'd see hanging out of the back of a riced up honda or something. I realize this concern is unfounded... but I gotta be me. On the other hand, the GTA's look awesome on the Shelby GT's. Also considering the SLP Loudmouths but need a read on drone there also. The external sound clips I have seen sound awesome. I need to heep my headers and mid pipes stock for a while so looking for thoughts on just the axel-back mod. Thanks! John |

If you want loud you're going to get drone. Only two axle-back systems that I know of that don't have the dreaded drone are the FRPP GTA's and the Corsas. Both are louder than stock at idle. Both are really quiet at cruising speed. At WOT the Corsas are louder. I like the Corsas, but they are very expensive so I bought the GTA's and really love them. Am I the only one who thinks the SLP LM's sound obnoxious. I mean really the sound they advertise doesnt come close to the performance of the car. Yea they are loud as piss but whatever happened to sound QUALITY. Does no one enjoy the sound of a quality chambered muffler anymore? I am not here to knock anyones taste by any means but dont yall remember that sound that was so distinctly Mustang, well that can only be produced by a chambered muffler. These flow through style have there place in the market today I suppose, it just seems with this new model came a new crowd so to speak.

I guess it's a matter of personal perspective. I have a friend who has the SLP LM's on his 06 GT and he loves 'em. To me the sound is absolutely obnoxious; when we ride in his car there are times we can't even carry on a conversation because of the drone. He says that it doesn't bother him because he's playing his CD's so loud Keep in mind he's the same guy who has straight pipes on his motorcycle and thinks they sound sweet. Of course, he wears ear plugs while he's riding so he won't go completely deaf... |

Appreciate the feedback. Maybe you are hitting on the sound I like, It's almost like a gurgle or something on idle-down and a snarl when accelerating.
To me the GTA's sound great. Are those chambered mufflers? If they have little to no drone, those might be the ones for me! Thanks! John |

Hey mav, ive heard it, but havent seen a dyno, but that with the loss of backpressure with the SLPs, that they dont gain as much, if anything lose, compared to other axlebacks...what do you think?

Modern Muscle your correct in that. This may sound crazy to some but it is possible to have too little back pressure which in turn can lead to power loss, mostly in the the torque department not so much the horsepower. These arent all out race cars we drive, the exhaust we put on these cars is actually a system not just pipes used to route spent gasses on a top fuel car so scavenging and gas velocity are a big factor in how the power is made in the car.

Was sold by ReverendBiker's sound clips (nice site man). Then went and listened to a Shelby GT in person and decided I REALLY like the sound of the GTA's.
Done. Ordered the GTA's from Ninosport. Best price I could find and their online customer service is excellent. I have read people on this site criticizing installs of other exhaust and wonder what is important to keep in mind. Any installation tips beyond "make them even"? Thanks! John

The install is pretty simple really, just mount the rubber hanger mounts on the muffler mounts before connecting to over axle pipe.

They're on. Love 'em!
Install was no big deal. Aligning took some patience but only amounted to .5 hour, <2 hours total. Good idea Mike to put the hangers on before bolting them up. With these mufflers though I had to loosely bolt up the front hanger and then slide the support into it and then jimmy the H-pipe on because there is not enough room above the chamber to manipulate the frontmost bolt into the hole. Not a big problem but I mention it because it could save a future installer of GTA's some time. My wife is impressed because she likes the sound and, so help me, there is LESS drone than I had with the stock exhaust. (I used to get a lot of drone at 1500-2000 RPM in 5th gear.) Also, we don't think we are imagining that the car feels a little quicker off the line. I was expecting no such difference but the backside dyno does not lie. We're glad we made this change. My car now sounds more aggressive but still very American. ![]() Thanks to all for your thoughts along the way! John
