At Half Mast...
Okay. Since the wife could care less about all the crap I just bought, I thought I'd share with some fellow enthusiasts. Sorry, but there are no updated pictures up on my link in the signature, but I will have them within a week, or so.
The most recent goodie is some American Racing Razors (18X9’s on all four corners). They are wrapped with Falken 275/40’s in the rear and 245/45’s in the front. It looks pretty good—the backs stick out a little more than I would have liked, but what are you going to do? The center caps that came with the wheels were not correct so I am waiting for them to ship the right one’s (bummed). 18’s seemed to be the way to go, based in no small part to the articles I read in this excellent forum. Coming from the factory 17’s, it’s quite a change, but a nice one. After putting the wheels on, it looked like I had thrown a lift kit on the car, so I ordered the BMR lowering package from LM Performance. It’s the less aggressive drop springs (1.25F and 1.75R). This arrives tomorrow. While I am down there changing out the springs, I decided to go with the billet BMR Lower Control Arms. I don’t know if I’ll realize much from them, but is seemed like a worthwhile upgrade. Again, arrival tomorrow. For some body dress up, I also had LM ship me the painted Roush wing. I spent today removing the factory one that I simply cannot stand. I went with the Roush because it’s painted and uses the factory bolt hole locations. Oh, it looks nice too! Removal of the factory one was easy. I simply unscrewed the four bolts under the trunk lid and used fishing line to slice the 3M tape. To remove the residue on the trunk, I used Turtle Wax Grease and Grime Remover (or some name like that). A hair dryer helped a little, but my hands are still a little raw. It looks real clean without the wing, but I am anxious the get the Roush on. Should be easy now that everything is prepped. Because I’m somewhat brainwashed on body parts from Roush, I also ordered the Roush painted hood scoop. Yeah, I know—it is not functional and all that, but I really wanted something on the hood. This is my first car of this sort (my fastest was a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP prior to the Stang) and all things like the scoop look good to me. I had purchased a Steede Tri-Ax shifter a while back and, while it functioned well and I liked the shorter throw, the transmission noise and rattle was simply unacceptable. It was also very notchy did not leave the driver with the feeling his car was running well. Add to this that the shifter does not integrate with the factory shift boot—the stick just sort of wandered around in it with no professional fininsh. I had tapped it with a Steeda knob. So, I had LM also send me the Hurst Short Throw (I should have ordered this in the first place, but got impatient waiting for it to get in stock). I have heard a number of good things and expect excellent results. Oh, the Steeda is for sale if anyone wants to PM me for an offer. Okay, here is the fun part. I placed my order for a Whipple HO Supercharger! I am nearly wetting myself. I worked with my installed in Denver and we designed something a little custom. I ordered the charger by itself, but added 60 pound injectors (for future upgrades), a 10 and 12 PSI pulley, and Kenne Belle Boost-A-Pumps. We’re also going with some cooler plugs. I wouldn’t have minded a Kenne Belle, but they would not even return my calls and e-mails so how would they be if I needed support from them? Not acceptable in my eyes. Since the stock under drive pulleys will be put back on, the Steeda ones are for sale also. Anyway, since the car appears to have gotten “slower”, the blower had to be next. I’m so excited, and thus this message .
