dbling, I'm not here to argue. I see things differently in real world mechanical experience. I never put out there that psi was a measure of power, so I'm assuming that wasn't directed my way.

I think there is an agreement though about the entire topic: You play, you may have to pay. Could be now, could be later, could never be, but do you want to risk it, or build up properly?

Emay,

I agree with you 100% on the issue. Its a matter of time before the engine will blow when you run your horsepower about 400.

Takes more than just a turbo/supercharger to play with the big boys!

I'm supercharged and pulling 12lbs. of boost... 480rwhp 430rwtq
Runs good with no problems, I wonder if shifting @ 6800rpm's is bad on it??

I plan on buying a Livernois forged shortblock this winter.

Thumbs down

Pro Charger

After first install and Dyno tune, Engine was putting out 489HP, tuner advised
that it "Should be ok" Opted to Down Tune it to 436RWHP. I don't beat on it and so far it runs like a dream. I still plan to upgrade the rotating part to forged when I get back from Iraq. I believe in better safe then sorry on the side of the road.

Umm this is just my .02 cents. But 50 PSI vs 5 PSI.. Even if they may for example get the you to the same HP. BUT if you think for a second.. PSI = Pounds per square inch, THERE for 50 PSI will creat more "Stress" then 5 PSI.. Right?

It's a drop in the bucket compred to the force generated by combustion, but would be indescribably inefficient. That is where ignition timing comes into play. To get the same power on the same octane fuel from these two theoretical setups, you would have to retard the timing 75-ish degrees off of what the 5psi setup was tuned to. If the 5 psi setup was tuned to 25* BTDC @ WOT, then to run the same octane fuel in the 50 psi setup, your timing (by the math, of course, becuse this car would be retardedly innefficient and probably have trouble running at all) would have to be retarded 75 degrees, or 50* into the downstroke BTDC. On 91 octane and 8 psi your WOT timing will be around 16* BTDC, and on 10 psi it will be around 14 * BTDC to make the same power. The 10psi and less timing is slightly less efficient but also slightly safer. Whatever boost is run, the tune's ignition timing has to match the intended octane. And even then, it's real easy to get a bad tank of gas. Moral of the story: Doesn't matter how much boost you run (whithin reason, obviously), because your tuner is limited by the octane available where you're at. This entire example was given without getting into heat generated by that much boost, etc...just as a simple "what if?", not a real world possibility.
