From some other exhaust post in this forum:
"A crackling/popping exhaust means a healthy engine with a nice, free flowing exhaust"
I cant remember whose words those were, nor the exact words, but that's where the crackle comes from

Lol, well I have the plugs, took me 45 minutes to do, just take the intake off.. there is butterflies in there.. you just take them out and those little plugs seal everything, I bought from brenspeed... good install page came with them! For 69 dollars and 5 to 8 hp you can't complain... sounds good too... and you live in fl so I wouldn't worry about what the headers are made of.. lt's will make it sound amazing!

Dumb question time, can any X pipe fit on pacesetters LTs? I see Pypes makes an x. Anyone have a video with pacesetters? There isn't many on youtube at all.

Not any X will just bolt up to any header. With a little creativity, it can be made to work though. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm running a Mac mid pipe with Pypes headers. It took 20 bucks worth of pipe and 15 minutes to make it work.

Cool thanks. I used to tear apart cars, and motorcycles for FUN but I seem to have used up my allotment of mechanical patience so i'll be getting it done. I'm sure they will bitch about a "little creativity", maybe not. So i'm going to try this -
2005-2010 Mustang GT Pacesetter Long Tube Headers & H Pipe (1-3/4" Primary)
or wait for a deal on ebay
or stick with what I've got, which isn't too bad.

MACS are all but impossible to even get right now, and I have seen people who actually have them, report some fitment issues.

JBAs are easily had, cheaper, and the only people reporting fitment problems with them, are people who dont actually have them. Everyone I have talked to/read posts from, that has them, reports that they had no fit issues. I know mine fit perfect. Im not sure why people nutswing MAC so hard. The prochambers look like they were welded by a monkey with downs syndrom ( which doesnt actually matter) and the headers dont seem to fit any better than the "cheap" headers. In my mind if you are going MAC you may as well go Pypes. Or just spend the money and go Kooks, which are pretty much universally agreed to be the nicest ones out there.) (although you can get JBAs with the off road H or X for ~600 shipped and they fit great, and make almost the exact same power, they were second only to kooks in the big header shootout in the one magazine)

With the pacesetters being so cheap, and knowing what I do about pacesetter products, I would expect some fitment issues, but I am betting they could be easily worked around, and they are dirt cheap, so I wouldnt sweat it.

No fitment issues what so ever. And the H-pipe is a slip fit so no collectors with gaskets to leak. For the money you cant beat them. If I had it to do over again I would do the same thing.

BAM I have no excuse then. I REALLLLLLY dont want to spend any more $$ on exhaust but I have a bonus(a small one) coming up next paycheck so its not going to be very hard to guess how this story will end up...

So don't spend the money. If you are happy with your exhaust now, just leave it alone.

I have shorties on my 2000
everyone told me it wouldn't do anything performance or sound-wise
i wasn't expecting any performance gains, but was hoping for some sound improvement.
i got it cheap around $100, and i had the rest of the exhaust already, so i figured why not.
the sound did get deeper and a tad bit louder with the shorties. but keep in mind this is a 2000 GT.

i have no personal experience with shorties on a S197, but there are some that have shorties and say it did make it deeper sounding.

LT's are better than shorties in everyway.
but since you want to save money, and if you can get the shorties for cheap, and you already have a midpipe and axle backs, it may be worth a shot.
if all you want is sound.

Everyone says they do nothing.

Dynos say different from everything I have read and seen. THAT SAID, they do very little. They do like 1/4 what LTs do. IMO, and Im sure most would agree, not even close to worth the money or effort.

Tooo funny, I've changed my mind 5 times in the last 20 mins. I should keep what I have since I'm 90% happy with it, but thats probably not whats going to happen. Since its going to cost me $700-1000 I do kinda question if I'm going to sound $1,000 better than my x pipe, cai, tune and violators do now? Probably.

But thanks ALL for the excellent, excellent advise here, it really helps a lot.

If you are 90% happy, save the $1000 haha. The headers may push you farther away from happiness. Don't mess with a good thing unless you are looking for more power.
