Rear Spoiler?
Since I'm currently in the buying process(most likely this weekend) I have a few questions: I really like the Rousch spoilers I have seen like this:
![]() How functionally appropriate is something like this? Does this serve the same purpose as several of the stock Mustang spoilers do? I was told at high speed that a rear spoiler can help to keep your vehicle in the proper position. I've only had trucks previously so up until now I have had no real experience with them. I've driven a GT with one but don't really know much about them. I see Mustangs without them all the time. I know it isn't necessary but can someone elaborate a little more on the one in the image above and maybe typical stock spoilers?

I dont think you need a functional spoiler for street driving. Its all looks

A spoiler works at high speed to use the air pressure flowing over the car to push the back end of the car down onto the road but it's of minimal use if the front end is being lifted and ruining the steering so an air dam at the front stops too much air going under the car.
A rear spoiler also deflects air off the car so instead of clinging to the cars surface and then abruptly curling round the trunk into the low pressure area at the back of the car (created by your car moving forwards) thereby creating turbulence, it acts like a take-off ramp and pushes the air up and away from the back of the car. In theory, this creates less turbulence behind the car and therefore less drag. In practice, it only does this at very high speeds but it can help with keeping the back of your car cleaner as it deflects the dirty air away but it's not a huge difference believe me. Like most people have pinpointed, it's mainly looks. European cars are now shying away from spoilers and going for undercar spoilers which basically positively channel the air from under the car through a venturi which achieves exactly the same thing, pushing the car down onto the road but more evenly. The air then vents through vertical fins under the rear bumper so that the air is discharged cleanly. In theory, although the spoiler can create less turbulence behind the car and thus less drag, the spoiler itself can add to the drag thereby evening out any advantage. It also adds weight. Most ricers with big wings don't go fast enough to get any advantage at all and it probably slows them down.

By the way, I installed the painted Roush wing on my ride and it went very easy. They give you templates for drilling and it only took about two hours (being careful, of course). It really sets off the car. No, it's not faster and I notice not difference in handling, but it sure looks nice and attracts eyeballs.

to break down a spoiler in a few sentences: Air plane wings create upward lift by making it easier for air to travel over the top of the wings than below, car spoilers do the exact opposite. They create down pressure which helps hold the rear wheels to the ground. If you're looking for looks go with that ducktail spoiler, if performance is what you want, Steeda Competition spoiler is the way to go

Rear performance
My Betty came with the stock dress skirt until I introduced her to a new duck tail skirt. The one thing you must remember is 1st the way it makes your girl look and 2nd if it adds any performance that's a plus!
I went back and forth over the Roush wing and the Cervini, what can I say I like the "Big" look....the best part of my ride is from the rear wheels to her tail! I would only suggest cleaning the wing yourself using rubbing alcohol helps clean the product before applying the paint! Peace,

As far as spoilers go.. most are just for looks.. there is little impact, as i believe, that a spoiler does. Yes, it does help in high speed aerodynamics but eh...
Personally.. I love the Cervini spoiler for the Mustang https://cervinis.com/product.aspx?car=1&id=1208#2227 I love the C-Series wing..I am thinking about getting it myself...but need to get some money for it first.. |

hey farva do a CAI & tune before the shifter. youll be much happier with the results. then do an axle back exhaust. there is no performance gains but the sound in itself is worth every penny.

"I want a burger"
"get me a burger... its for a cop" "What your gonna spit in it now" Nice car, and exelent choice by diverting away from the fake hood scoop. |
