lot of black smoke on start up.

I have 29000 miles on my 07 gt. Today when I started it it blew it a big puff of real dark smoke. It does not smoke regularly. I had started it earlier today and moved it from one spot to another. Then when I started it later thats when it smoked. I noticed this one time before a month or so ago but dont remember the circumstances. I did not keep smokeing just blew it out on start up. What is this?

CHeck oil level asap. REPLACE YOUR PLUGS. A fouled plug will leave less than 100% fuel burned in cylinder. the result is smoke. What gas are you running ? Any computer codes going crazy on your dash ?

Sounds like she's running rich and your getting fuel in the exhaust. What do the plugs look like? Is she misfiring?

Wow u guys were suppose to say nothing is wrong with your baby. Anyway, the oil is fine and im running 93 octane. I have the FRPP power package. So i got the tune for that, with the cai and gta's.

Change the Plugs? I thought these new plugs lasted forever.

sounds like it is a little rich on cold start up. probably in the tune. it shouldn't hurt anything. if it was oil it would be a blueish/white smoke from a leaky valve stem seal. does the car still have cats on it because once you remove them the cold start is a little richer and you get the black smoke. i wouldn't worry about it. had a z28 with 383 stroker and did the same thing on start up and wide band was always showing rich when it happened.

are you throwing any rich codes?
Pull your plugs and check em out, see if they are fouled.
could possibly be a code mis-write somewhere in the cpu causing the injectors to spray more than they should upon startup...
are you pumping it as if it were carb'd?
BTW these plugs are good for 100k, but with me about to spray, i gotta have new ones

I asked a friend of mine who is a distributor for AMFLEET fuel additive and said that you probably have water moisture in your tank and thats mold thats burning off. he said that could be the reason why it happened on your second start up. the first one washed it all down into your tank and then the second one sucked it all up. just throw some sort of gas additive in there that will dry it out and watch where you buy your gas from after it rains. try to buy from a gas station that is on a hill.

What mathematical formula did you use to reach that conclusion?

Don't be affraid of changing these plugs- It's a must for the supercharged folks and I have not heard one horror story about head trouble from anyone that swapped to HTo's on this site - Nor modfords for that matter.

This really does sound like a richness at start up issue, which is easily remedied in the tune if you want to. It's not necessary though, as it's not a damaging problem.

I'd sit tight and when your ready for a custom tune, let your tuner know this happens so he can tweak it a hair..

I put a set of HT0's on my KB charged 07...ran like crap. Severe lurching under heavier load/low throtle settings. My fuel leaned out a bit more than anyone would like when this happened. Figured it couldn't be the brand new plugs, so I checked the vacuum system, thinking it was boost flutter. Ohm'd out the coils, thinking it was a misfire...Pulled all the plugs and checked them for spark...they were all fine. The problem wouldn't go away, so I went back to the stock heat range. Been running like a raped ape ever since. The unburned fuel from the weak cylinders was causing the ECU to pull fuel out of the mix. Even talked to Jim Bell on the phone about it, he said he's never heard of a problem with colder plugs on their mules, but if the stockers work, run 'em. The Knock sensors will still pull timing if the plugs get too hot. IDK if I just had a couple weak plugs in the batch, but they were definitely the problem. My .02
