rear gear fluid? capacity and viscoscity?


hey guys im just checkin i was going to change the fluid in my rear but i could only get my hands on two bottles of 75w-90... will that work or do i need something else?

please let me know

but that wieght is gonna work? cause i read in the manual that it calls for 75w 140... so i'm good with that?

i forget the weight to be honest but you should run high performance gear oil anyway.

DO NOT use 75W-90. It does not support GL5 "EP" requirements. There is a reason Ford (per the manual) requires 75-140W lubricant! Since you did not mention mileage, year or circumstance, the next question is.....why are you changing ? Ford does not even reference a service interval on the Mustang rear diff in the 2007 Scheduled Maintenance Guide. If you are doing a complete dump, note that a FRICTION MODIFIER additive (again in the manual) is required.

its an 05 that i got railed and it bent my rear housing so i got a used one out of a 06... they sent it dry... i'm only putting fluid in it for about a month then draining it back out to do gears once i have the money... how bad is it to run the 75w 90? im not trying to second guess any1's opinions just wanna know if i can make this work for a little bit

Well I just got my gears installed this week on my 96 and they filled her up with normal 80W90 and said that they have had the best success with that! But to answer your question, I really dont know!

Motor oil will work, for a while. Put the proper weight lube and modifier in and if 1 month turns into 6, you won't end up on foot. Your call.
