RADAR

Well after having my 2006 convert gt for over a year now I have finally got my first speeding ticket. I was on along stetch of a double lane highway and incountered a new dodge charger. To make a long story short I kicked his ass. But as I was slowing down a cop came around the corner and caught me. I'm not that upset because I deserved the ticket but well worth it. Needless to say I'm now in the market for a radar detector and would like to know what you guys would recommend.

well congrats on the kill, like BWAL09 says "meeting a patrol car head on at a high rate of speed is the leading cause of 'anal pucker'." but from what ive seen/heard the best detector is a tie between the excort passport and the valentine 1. im sure plenty of people will disagree but this is just my $0.02. i can't tell you from experience but i think its time for an upgrade for me, mine is getting a little out dated. its a nicer cobra that i bought a couple years ago. its still kickin but i think i need an upgrade. my pig sniffer isnt as good as it was. (i got no problems with most cops, only the assholes)

correction, its really, "Meeting a patrol car on a curve at a high rate of speed is a leading cause of 'Anal Pucker'." and its BWAL09's sig but oldernewbie said it first. gotta give credit where credit is due.

Valentine One, hands down.

If I had the money, I would have one. ($800 bucks, or 3-400 used on ebay)

I am also getting a radar/laser scrambler. I can only find them in great britain, and they are also around 400 bucks (but highly illegal )

I've had nothing but good faith in the Cobra Radar detectors, been using them for years. I hear the valentine one is a great radar detector, but I coudn't see myself paying $400 for a radar detector when the radar detectors I've been using from Cobra have been good to me and got me out of a lot of tickets, my most recent detector was $120 from Cobra.

But if you got the cash, get the valentine, if not, take a look at Cobra.

If I got a cobra, it would be the 9830...most advanced one yet. I think thats the right model number...and it retails around 200-250, but can find it on ebay for 140 shipped.

+1 on the cobra, as with Mav, I dont dont want to spend 400+ on a radar detector. I have had my cobra for a while now and it works great for me.

go for the escort! my dads shop sells radar dectors and i had an 8500 escort for a while and a valentine one to demo and escort works way better! trust me...i have had both and the valentine one is not as good and more money. i just upgraded to the new 9500i and its sick cause you can program out falses and it has way cool features like increases sensitivity depending on how fast your going, and it turns itself up if you have windows down/music blasting ect. go for the escort or you will regret it

Go valentine if you wanna spend the money, I have 2 friends with them and they are freaking amazing...

I have the top of the line cobra model that was around $180-200 and it works pertty good. Only negative things about it are it picks up anything, it will even go off if you drive by someone else with a cobra detector. And the other thing... wish it would pick up a radar detector a little sooner, sometimes it will go off a half a mile away from a cop and sometimes only go off about 100yds from a cop

Valentine 1 ... no doubt. The directional arrows tell you where the signal is coming from so you know where to look. It also will detect "Junk" radar detectors and display a J so you know not to worry about them. I had a little buyers remorse until I received mine and I have never looked back.

Thanks guys for all of your info. I had seen on of those escort 8500 at a local eletronics store but they were selling it for $470 Can. I don't mind spending money on a good radar but that sounds a little to much. I will look up the Valentine 1 and compare to the escort 8500.
Thanks again.

I have the escort 8500 and love it. It has incredible range. I paid 300 US (315 Canadian) so they definitely are charging to much. I haven't used the Valentine 1 so I can't say if it's better or not, but as good as the passport is and for the money you save I would say the passport is the better choice.
