4.56 gears question
I just purchased a Mustang. And i wanna do the gears. I see most of everybody going with 4.10s N/A and mostly 3.73 boosted. Anyway my question to those of you who know, is about the 4.30 and 4.56s. If i had 4.56s put on the car, i know the pros, but what are the cons? Is it top speed? Noise? What? Why do they only put them on the drag cars? Thanks.

I would not recommend 4.56's. I know a decent number of guys with Mach1's had them, but those cars loved gears!
I would not go any higher than 4.30's and if you plan on boosting/spraying I would not go higher than 4.10's. I have only 420rwhp right now and 4.10's with 20"wheels and I light the tires up in 3rd! Breaking traction is fun but when trying to go fast or race, it gets ugly. |

My dads gt has an off road x pipe and flowmasters with 4:10's... and when I'm cruising around 65 or 70 your at around 2600-2800 rpms, and with the right exhaust set up it can be rediculously loud. 4.56's would hurt gas mileage and might make it loud in the cabin of your car on the highway.

first question is what do you want to do with the car? (race, street race, daily driver, long trips) I would say if your gonna stay N/A go with 4.30, with 4.56 you would need a 32"+ tire to make it in 4th in quarter(which is almost to tall to fit under car without mini tub). for anything but all out racing i wouldn't go over 4.30, if planning on forced induction or nitrous i wouold say 3.73-4.10,,,, top speed probably somewhere around 150ish EST. with 4.56

Yea... thanks for the input so far. No i don't plan to boost the car, I like fast but I can't afford to blow shit up and change it every month. Besides, i got one of those Foose models which means i'm already 8 grand on top of where i should be. But if i brake into 12s n/a with this car, i'm happy. It's gonna be more track than drag for me. I'll put more money in suspension and chassy than i ever will on the motor. But this is what i was thinking as far as acceleration and you guys tell me what you think:
-4.30 gears -alum drive shaft -hurst short shift -cat delete(already have FRPP exhaust) -headers - that brings another question - short or long, what's the difference? -BBK 62mm tb -CAI -cams -tune -possible head port and polish So that's what i have in mind as far as performance and than all the handling aspect to do....there's a pain for me. Actually for this Stang i traded in my tricked out 350 Z. and as far as cornering...damn. It's like going from a mini cart to a hovercraft. Anyway i just wanna make a nice car to have some fun at the track and on the street with, without going overboard with hp. It seems like these days you can drive around in a 10sec car and you still find another 10 cars out there that take you...there is no limit, so i figured forget it, why pay the extra money so i can pump out 500 horses when i know that there are already hundreds of cars out there that pump out from 600-1000. Anyway, going off track here. I just want to see what you guys think about what i want to do with the car and what your advice is on what of it you think i shouldn't do and why. I ask you guys all this cause i never had a muscle car, only tuners and those are different. Thanks. |

for the costs of all those mods, I would just buy a blower or turbo!
For hearders, go longtube... they get the best power results. Shorty headers are a waste of your money! |

yea...don't wanna go boosted for a few reasons. It seems to me like cheap power brings costly repairs and blown engines. But if you pay the extra buck and stay within limits, you get more reliability. I like reliability. Besides, i never have been a big fan of boosted muscle V8s. I think the beauty of a V8 muscle is being all motor....but that's just me.

4.30 is ok for staying N/A, longtubes definitely- shorty's give 0 hp, i would say stay away from throttle body from what i read on here( i haven't installed one so not real sure on issues), C&L intake, BBR Stage 2 cams, livernois heads, and tune should maybe put down 350 wheel hp
and correct about cars you can strive to be the fastest but they will always have some one out there to hand your ass to you and leave you wondering just happened.

You'd be over 350 with those mods with a good tune. I'm at 325rwhp without cams and ported heads. I spent a damn lot to do that however. I would mod your car the way you suggested but also do it so that it could possibly be blown in the future. Trust me once you spend that money on NA and you get smoked by a Lancer your gonna wish you modded for a future blower or turbo. Peace
