Those of you with gears

how was your fuel economy effected by gears (3.73 or 4.10). also what are your RPMs at when your goin like 80-90mph. i was on the interstate the other day and at 85 they are like 2500 with 3.33s, so what would they be like with 4.10s?

I have a manual with 4.10's but I also have 20" wheels and tall tires so it is not as steep as a true 4.10 but I love them... my car was a DOG! when it had those 20" foose wheels and 3.31 rear

I get 33mpg on the interstated/highway. I know it sounds like a lie but I get it everytime! My RPM,s are around 2,250-2,400rpm going 5mph over the speed limit I believe.

If you have a loud exhaust system... at highway speeds it might get on your nerves.

3.55's to 3.73 will be hardly any difference... go 4.10's people are so scared of the gear these days sheesh! and if it feel too steep, throw some taller rubber on it

4:10's FTW. You only lose about 400 rpm in 5th, it doesn't affect your mileage on the highway, and will in fact improve your in-town mpg, due to the fact that the taller gear makes it easier for your engine to get the car rolling. Some guys complain that the 4:10 winds things up too quickly. Uhhm, that's the whole idea of improving acceleration. You just have to have patience and practice your shifting. (that's a nice way of saying learn how to drive, silly) lol

4:10's are greatl. Even after supercharging, I still like the fact the 4:10's are in. You will certainly like it.

I have a Cervini C-300 with 3.55's and 20" rims along with other bolt-ons. If I step up to 4.10's what will be the effect? What can I expect? I've heard that a steeper wheel runs well with 4.10's. Is this correct? Your opinions are appreciated. Later

Also, Can anyone tell me what my speed would be with 4.10's at around 3000 - 3500 RPM in 3rd gear? Thats where I typically like to cruise and dont want to loose that entirely. Thanks

I tell everyone.. if you go 4.10's ytou shouldnt be worried about fuel... 4.10's are a racing gear... You want the TQ there as sson as you put the pedal to the floor... if your more concerned about gas go witht he 373.

Motive makes a 3.90 gear, I am not sure if FRPP does. I dont think anyone on this site is running 3.90 gear.

With your mods and being a stick you'll notice a difference. But if you go with 3.73 you'll always wonder what its like to have 4.10.

I've had a different experience. The 4.10 gears were a pain with the S/C and the stock manual. 1st gear was essentially eliminated and 2nd gear wasn't much better. I have a clutchless 3 speed manual now, so it's not so bothersome for street driving but now car cannot finish 1/4 mile in 3rd gear (1:1 ratio) since top speed in 3rd gear is estimated at about 110 mph. Scheduled for dynotune tuesday and then see how fast it will do the 1/8 but likely will need another 700-1000 rpm to finish the 1/4. That will have to wait till the new long block goes in. May work out in the long run but today...wish I had stock 3.55 gears.
