Transmission kicks down on takeoff.

I have a 2006 GT with the automatic, 4:10 gears, drop pullies, headers, tune and when I let the car shift itself when taking off from a dead stop, it lights the tires up and after the shift to second, the transmission will downshift back to first which bogs the car down. If I roll it out and then get on it, it shifts fine. I do not like shifting manually, because the shifter if very touchy. I have some drag radials which I have not tried yet. Cutting down on the tirespin may eliminate my problem. Anyone else have similar problems. I plan on doing some bracket racing and I would rather let the tranny do its own shifting to be more consistent.

It sounds like the tune, maybe. Did you play with any of the shifting parameters in the tuner?

your problem is tirespin/speed
how fast are you going when it shifts, It must be under 40.

What is happening is your wheel speed is triggering a shift in the pcm, but then it is like shit, im not going that fast!, and downshifts to try and get the maximum mph out of the gear.
when youre spinning, feather the throttle to where it doesnt want to shift (trick it) and youre golden. Id say keep it around 5000 rpms, and it shouldnt want to shift if its being feathered. Not sure on that, cause i have a stick.

Leave it to MM to teach the world how to fool a tranny.

I would guess the shift points in your tune are screwed up. How high are your rpm’s at idle in first gear? Whose tune is it? Does it include all your mods?

Well once again I'm throwing traction control out there lol. Just maybe. If your doing this with traction control on, you will spin then the car will up shift a gear and bog like crazy... then drop down a gear and try to take off again. I use to do it in 1loudgts car ALL THE TIME. . If it's not that then its the tune. IF you have trac off theres no reason for it to do that unless your shift points could be messed up.
