CAI and tuner help

Hey guys...

I recently signed up to this forum... I have an 07 mustang GT convertible. I had a question about CAI and tuners.... What is the advantage of a CAI with a tuner and what are some kits (need hp :wink ). I live in ottawa, canada so i don thave much selection and everything is 3 times the price u guys in the States get it at so links to sites that sell to canada would help too (i know ebay does)

hi and welcome. the advantage of a cai and a tuner is more POWER!!!
the air going into our engines is very warm due to the heat produced by our engines. the cai allows air to get into the throttle body faster and with less restriction bringing in cooler air = more power. the tune you get to go along with it will make sure your engine is matching the new large amount of air coming in with the correct mixture of fuel.

I use the c&l racer intake and sct livewire tuner. these two together make around 40+ rwhp. I'm in texas so for links to websites....

try and get a magazine up there in canada and look through it to find some websites that will ship to you.

thanks Bhblondguy ....

i know the purpose of a CAI I was just wondering if the CAI and tuner were directly related or not... ie can I get one and wait before i get the other or is better to get them both one time?

it's best to get them at the same time.

the 05+ computers are very picky and you will need a tune for just about anything

There are some CAIs that do not require a tune but the best thing to do is buy a C&L CAI and SCT xcal from BamaChips.

I just added a K&N C.a.i. - I don't believe it requires a tune - I can notice a difference.

I do want to add tuner, any recommendations?

welcome to the site.

I recommend either a SCT Xcal or a Sniper tuner.

your not going to get much more power out of a K&N intake, maybe another 2HP at the most! if you want more power, I'd sell the K&N and pick up a C&L intake or a JLT intake for the biggest power and biggest gains.

Not true of the 63 series which give +15 rwhp

The 69 sereries didn't give much. I installed the 63 series today and it is a noticable difference. (and great sound )

I mean not much power with a TUNER on a K&N intake, yes you get 15 horses with the K&N, thats true, but a tune will only give you 2 more HP, so a total of 18. so initially if you picked up a C&L or a JLT intake with a tuner, you would get a total of 30+HP! so you would pick up a lot more power and a lot more bang!

Mav,

Thanks for the education. After reading this I did some investigating. Here's a interesting head to head comparision of C.A.I.'s

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...ck_airbox.html

I don't think I want to sell the K&N for the little difference (About 4 rwhp and 2 lbs torque), but could anyone recommend a tune that will access the torque and hp at lower rpm's?

The Airade CAI has a venturi tube in it that can be removed when you get a tune for maximum benefit, and the craftsmanship and fit of the part is second to none and better than the majority. Look it up and read, I did alot of research before making my choice and the throttle response is awsome after it is installed. I can't wait to get my tune from Bama but my wife is making me wait for a birthday or christmas. Ask Zip he has an Airade.

We have found it is all about airflow. If you have a CAI that requires no reflash or does not include calibrated MAF electronics then it is not moving anymore then 5% airflow over stock. While the increase in this scenario is marginal, you still get the great CAI sound and thoaty acceleration sound.

This is the GMS CAI - it does not require a reflash to make a good power increase. Naturally with fine tuning there is always room for improvement but out of the box we have seen 15hp on a reg basis with manual trans cars
