v6 to v8 conversions for 2005-2007 mustangs
Hey I am new to the forum anyway I have 2006 Pony package puny powered Mustang, I know, I know I should have got the GT or better yet the Shelby but I didn't want to wait, you know no excuse is good enough. At any rate I want to upgrade to an v8 and can't any kind of conversion kits, any ideas.

MY IDEA:
STEP 1: save some money STEP 2: sell the v6 STEP 3: take the money saved and the money from the sold v6 and put it in your pocket STEP 4: Buy a used GT or a brand new gt 2005+ STEP 5: Be a happy camper

Yeah basically you just plug in the extra two cylinders to the cigarette lighter in the dash. Neat little kit. :award
I agree with the statement above. Sell it. It'll cost too much to get an engine in it. But hey, maybe you'll be lucky and find someone that traded in their Saleen Supercharged 2006 fully loaded perfect condition Mustang GT for $20k. Yeah the dealership offered that to me and wanted to sell me a Shelby GT for $47k. Umm no. "Its only $670 a month!" yeah $400 more than my payment now for a slower car. Good idea....NOT.

I have a paid for car, yes I understand that swapping motors will be expensive but not nearly as expensive as going the route y'all are suggesting. I can't believe that I am the only one who thinks this is a good idea. V8 swaps happen all the time in older mustangs as well as other muscle cars. C'mon y'all it would be great. In twenty years, I could make it a Shelby clone.

Trade it in....The difference you pay will surely be less than what a motor swap will cost. I'm not sure but I'd think the weight difference in a v6 to a v8 would require different springs , different wiring, and how about the transmission? are they the same for both ? If you still wanna keep it then I'd go to the v6 section and see what mods they are doing to them...I've read that adding a turbo to a v6 really wakes it up. Good luck and really research it before you attempt such a task.

Here's a litte bit of info that might help you out if you truly have your heart set on the swap.
http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...ighlight=crate Or, instead of swapping out for a 4.6L Modular engine...you could go with something like this bad boy. http://youtube.com/watch?v=jsKvrfyULhU

DUDE just by a GT, you are going to have to get a new motor, transmission, driveshaft, rear end, wheels and tires for more traction, new suspension, new wireing harness, new rear bumper for the duel exhaust.... it goes on and on!

muscle cars are easier to change since the motors can be purchased for cheap and there are no computers to have to worry about along with everything else
and then when u go to sell your swapped 2006 car no one is going to want to pay as much as a real GT so your losing money again

If you swap out the engine--you will DEFINITELY have to swap EVERYTHING else out too. Either buy a GT or put a Turbo on it--I'd go with a turbo and see how that does. you can make your mind up after that. I know you don't want to hear all of this :lala , but if not then don't ask the question if you don't like the answer.

Like everyone says, if you want a V8, sell the 6er and buy a GT... or Turbo it.

Yeah stating the above once again, either get a GT or a blower and if you're feeling adventurous get nitrous

Appreciate the Advice
I can see the consesus is to buy a GT, or possibly boost the V6. I really wasn't asking whether or not I should swap motors only asking if anyone on this forum has done it or know the FACTS regarding what it would take to get it done. I figured on having to dump the entire drive train and probably most if not all of the front suspension, there being wiring issues, as well as the rear valance for the dual exhaust which I will have to do any way (it wouldn't be right to have a Mustang without a dual exhaust). With regard to resale I do not intend to sell this car not now, not ever. I paid $24,000 new for the car, I believe the trade in is around $17,000. A new GT would set me back at $29,000 so that's around $12,000 difference Most assumed I intended to put a 4.6 in this car, as of yet I am undecided,
I was leaning to a supercharged 347 ci, though a 4.6 should be easier. At any rate I was looking for technically advice not a thumbs up or down on the swap idea. Some have been helpful despite thinking I'm crazy. I appreciate the responses. I wish some could have been technically helpful. |

My input is that its going to cost you more than 12,000 to swap motors
And your probably going to want to stick with a modular engine because trying to put a 347 in their you are going to run into tons of problems and it would be a shit load of work and would be dumb since the block inless its aftermarket isnt going to hold that much horsepower.

Alas I can not help you technically...have not a clue about such matters. I can't even comment on whether it's a good or bad idea.
But I do have a stock GT rearend with 3.55 gears, stock GT exhaust system, stock driveshaft and other bits and pieces...just lying around the garage, arranged neatly in a corner. Also, I'll be selling the stock motor very soon. So if you decide to go this route, I have the parts. It's not like my car can ever be put back to stock. No idea really what they are all worth...I'm thinking maybe $2500 including motor (7300 miles on it). Already sold stock transmission, Procharger, and many other items. |
