Ramps
Could some one recommend a good set of ramps to drive my 07 GT up on to, for oil changing? It has the stock GT front end but looks like it needs fairly long and low ramps to get it done.
Thanks

Saw raceramps demo'd on the Speed channel recently. They are light, non-abrasive, get the job done and would store easily.
I think this is what I am going to get for oil changes. Just more convienent than the jack and stands. John

Speaking of jacks and stands, where are the best places to put the stands on a S197?

Bought a jack
Well thanks for the info on the ramps. I thought the store bought ones were ok, but too expensive for just ramps. The idea of making my own was a good one.
But im allmost 54 years old, and lugging those heavy ramps out made of wood....would have my bad back hurtin for certain. Plus I dont have any place to put them out of the way. So I wimped out, and just bought a small floor jack that fit under my car, and still let me move the handle up and down enough to raise the car a bit. I didnt have to raise the front wheels off the ground, just enough to get under it. I had it in neutral while raising the car, and then put it in gear, set the brake, and blocked the rear wheels. I have allways been saying on here that I couldnt see a good reason for using something like Mobil 1 in our new GT's. But I got off that at last, and am trying Mobil 1 for the first time still using the stock Motorcraft filter " new of course ". I actually feel like the car is smoother running going down the road, but its most likley in my head. Thanks very much for the help, I never changed my oil on this car my self till today, thinking it would look good to Ford to have them do it, I will keep my own records from now on and do it my self. |

YA your right!
I just have a bit too much lag time at my age to do the oil change while its airborne, but I will work on it for sure.

Jack
I just used the jack, if I had raised the car off the ground I would have used stands also, but in this case they would have been in the way.
It doesnt need much to lift the car enough to crawl under the front of it. Having said that, I dont think its the smart thing to do as the jack allthough brand new may have let its self down and my butt would have been stuck under there! My Wife stayed out in the carport with me while I was under the car in case something happaned but like I said, You only need to raise the car just a bit. The tires never were off the ground or close to it. In any case, I feel great about doing it my self. I still cant believe I took over a year to do it my self, since I have been changing the oil on everything I own with an engine in it all my life. |

Well if the jck took a shit it would have crushed your rib cage so.....
Just use the ramps. Easier for oil changes and safer than just a jack.

I am thinking about one of these. I have seen them in person and they are very nice. Just hurts the wallet.

So for changing your oil you need to keep your car level correct?
