Crate engine

Hey everyone
I don't know if this is a stupid question or not but I'm thinking about selling my motor and roush s/c from my 2006 gt convert and buying a crate engine. Mabe the 588R with 630hp. Would I still be able to stay with the stock transmisson? Also if I decide keep the s/c could it be used on this engine?

i dont think that s/c would work on that eng. there was an article in 5.0 or mm&ff about a guy who put a 427 crate motor in a s197. try looking on either one of those magazine websites for the article because it came out a couple months ago so it should be on there sites.

Your not going to be using any 4.6 roots style blower on that 588R. Your talking small block to big block conversion.

I haven't looked at your car profile so I don't know if your manual or auto, either way, clutch and some beefing will be required for the torque numbers that motor will throw out. Add to that, your wanting to charge the car in some way.. You better think about putting aside about 4 or 5 k to build a wicked trans. Something that will last.

Lastly, from my knowledge that 588 has only been used as a carbed motor, never have I seen it EFI. That poses more problems with custom fabrication in many areas. Not to mention we are drive by wire, not cable.

I think your looking at 2500 to 5000 in labor and fabrication right off the bat as a low ball guestimate.

Why not a 4.6 or 5.4 fully built motor, with a blower. You can get that done far cheaper.

Thanks for the input guys. Maybe it would be best that I get something done to the existing engine. I'm just not sure how to get more power out of this stang besides going with a different s/c.

enlarge all the orifaces (bigger mass air, elbow, headers, midpipe, mufflers, ect... ) and put a smaller pulley on...
