Hertz Shelby GT-H Traction Control off function disabled

Hertz has disabled the traction control "off" push button on the dash. It's confirmed in the new Motortrend article, as well as posts by Shelby employees. I've seen on the net quite a few posts in various Mustang and car related forums where people are asking "did they?" "How did they?" and "How can I get TCH off?" What they did to disable the switch can be undone (in other words returning the car to the way it was made by the FORD factory) in less than a minute, is undetectable that you did it, and is just as easily returned to "as rented" condition before you turn it back in. The information is on a blog: http://hertzshelbytchon.blogstream.com/

The danger is that some posts have recommended unplugging an anti-lock brake module, thereby disabling TCH--but also disabling anti-lock brakes! Hertz and Shelby should realize that--boys being boys--most people who rent one will be car guys, and will want the TCH off. What they don't realize is to what lengths people (of varying IQ and mechanical ability) will go through to accomplish this...and it's better in the long run by far to issue the car AS FORD MADE IT, and not risk some numbskull messing with the brake system, totalling a car and killing people!!!

Rent it, put it back the way the factory intended, keep it safe and simple, then restore it before you give it back to Hertz.

This is true, the TCS is turned off. I rented one when my ship pulled in to Pearl Harbor, they run about 200 a day, and you do a 20 min inspection with the Hertz Manager prior to getting the keys. I didn't screw with the TCS, as being the 3rd person to rent one, I didn't want to screw it up for the next guy. Anyways, it was a sweet ride, and to quote my 73 year old uncle, "THAT THING IS A !@#$in ROCKET!!!"

I didn't get told about a milage limit, but hey, you can only drive so many laps around Hawaii, you know??? I figured it would be more expensive there, they only had 4 on the island. I mean, a Big Mac meal was pushing 9 bucks!!! It was a sweet ride, but it was fun doing the inspection. They pointed out EVERYTHING...including the anti-pilferage seal on the engine...
