Cobra clone?

While I was out Friday night checking out all the sweet rides at the local ford dealership . I ran across this ride advertised at $31000.00. I don't think you could buy a new mustang and add the body kit, brake kit and stripes that cheap. Heres the link: http://www.mustangmac.com/mustangmac...t500-clone.htm

I know its a clone. My point is I didn't think that was a bad price for what you get . Especially if that price is negotiable.

Well I'm not sure what new ones are selling for, I would say between $26,000 AND $27,000 . The front fascia along with the lights and not even painted is around 1500.00 . I'm sure the brake kit is high as well and lets not forget the hood , the rear bumper, side skirts and wheels which shelby could have done better.

The clone I'm seeing in that link is advertised at $43,655. What a joke! That's right at MSRP for an actual GT500, and they sure didn't clone the engine in the copy-cat they're selling.

It isn't. In this case, it's putting GT500 stuff (but not the good stuff, like the engine) on a GT.

You guys are taking this way too damn serious ! I personally saw this car last night and the sell price is 31,000 its on the windshield. If you met this car on the road you wouldn't know the difference. I know that price on that link is a joke as well I just think its not a bad deal. If it had the engine that would be a awesome deal.

I reckon I'd know the difference based on appearance (several subtle cues that I noticed almost immediately), sound, and performance if I met that thing on the road.

O.K. Newbie, based on outside appearance only, what did you notice besides the GT 500 C which the C would be easy to remove. Yes its a GT and if someone wanted the look of the overpriced Shelby it would be a good deal. Didn't mean for this thread to be a pissing contest over a clone. We all have our taste in mustangs thats why each of ours is unique in its own way. I was just throwing it out there. I guess when someone joins Modded Mustangs with a GT500 clone you can criticize them for what they have. Its still a Modded Mustang!

The price might be just a little steep but for somebody that wanted to have that gt500 image then that would be a good buy. Not for me though.

I agree. The look of the gt500 is awesome excluding the rear spoiler. Replace the spoiler with a gt. Remove the badges and stickers. I’d buy it for say $27,000.00.

Just a base GT premium (Inv. $27), with a dealer installed Shelby clone package for ($31)...has some merit.

Just don't rev it beside a real one.

Calm down. Nobody's pissing (at least not on this end). When I said it was a joke, I was referring to the $43,655 price tag showing on the website (which I think is pretty clear from the way I phrased it).

And no thanks - I don't guess I'll criticize anyone who brings a clone into this site. I have no problem with people wanting to make their rides look like GT500's. That's their prerogative, and, let's face it, the cars look pretty dang sweet. And I actually think $31,000 would be a steal for that if you wanted it. The only negative thing I said was "What a joke," which I will stand by as a direct reference to putting the $43,655 MSRP out there on the website (even if they're offering it for less in person).

As for the differences besides the "C" on the side:

- The exhaust tips (I guess you could change 'em, but they're not stock).

- The side scoops (again, you could add them, but I'm guessing you wanted me to point out anything that would make me say, "That's not the way a GT500 comes").

- The Baer 2-piston breaks and drilled rotors (I can't imagine anyone taking off the Brembo 4-piston setup and replacing it with a 2-piston set).

- The most obvious thing I first noticed was the overall positioning of the cosmetics (the stripes and decals aren't positioned right in relation to each other). The way the "Y" in "Shelby" overlaps the stripe on the back looks bad to me and certainly isn't the way it is on the GT500. Same problem with the way the cobra in the grill isn't fully outside the line of the stripe. Call me anal for noticing that sort of thing (nothing new - I'm a details guy by habit and by profession), but I spotted the "Y" overlap immediately.

Again, no pissing here. Nothing wrong with those subtleties if they don't bother the person buying it. Just answering your request for a list of some of the differences between the clone and the real thing.

Peace, brother.

depends on taste of what you want, i personally want just the front bumper and headlights and to get rid of the fog lights in the grill, but besides that don't really care for the rest of the car, if you like that hood you just as soon get a Saleen one because it is cheaper and lighter, but it is all in what look you want
