When paying for mid-pipes you will get what you pay for in terms of quality and materials used... If you don't have to get inspected, get a catless h-pipe. I use to have an x-pipe on my mach1 but those sound better on 4v motors, get an h-pipe to keep the deep muscle sound

i have a one time inspection that was already done. i know cat-less will probably get me more sound.

i want a little deeper, not really louder.

As mentioned, I have an O/R H-pipe. I love it! You are going to get more HP out of an O/R pipe, and it's going to be cheaper. As far as which sounds better(x or h), an h pipe is deeper sounding and an x pipe is raspier. I would go with the h. You can get the PYPES O/R h-pipe for $175 at brenspeed.com.(free shipping)

I have Pypes O/R H-pipe and Pypes Violater Axelbacks from Brenspeed. Couldn't be happier. Not a bad install either. Just make sure you can turn off your 02 sensors, or buy MIL Eliminators from Brenspeed. the H-pipe was $175, the mufflers $240. But they usually can be found on ebay for a bit cheaper.

Another vote for the Pypes o/r h here. Sounds deeper and louder, you'll love it. Inspections are no problem with a tune or MIL's.

i agree, h pipes on modulars sound a lot nicer, and less raspy. sound also has a lot to do with mufflers so keep that in mind making your descison. Personally i wont change from my 2 chamber flows,.. those and an off road h are magnificent. str8 through mufflers such as magnaflow..etc. sound a lil better with the x in my opinion. But i prefer the hollow throatier sound acheived from h's. Another thing to keep in mind, is , on your fifty(5.0) the motor was slightly larger carrying a already slightly deeper sound than the 4.6

slp loudmouths and a FRPP Xpipe with factory cats. i love the sound loud outside, but quiet inside.

I love my magnaflow catted x with my steeda's. Sounds louder outside the car, but smoothed out some drone on the inside. Still deep cruising, screams at wot. Fit and finish of the xpipe was great, and had no problem with the install. I would go xpipe with a straight through muffler design, H pipe with a chambered one.

In a perfect world I would get the Bassani Modular kit that has Cats and Cat delets also but they are pricey. So if I had to choose a catted X or H it would be Pypes Catted X IMHO.

Cant argue with the o/r hpipe. as far as what sounds better its a matter of opinion. I like them both. Xpipes with certain setups are too raspy for me. But they sound good with some setups. I am getting the frpp x pipe put on today, I already have the gta's. I have to get my emissions inspected every two years so Im not messing with the cats. but the frpp xpipe is only 120.
