which ones? comp, crane, or crower?
for the comps, youre fine, just get a tune, and expect 25-30 hp
for the cranes, you might want to check your spring seat pressures, if the springs arent crane, as a tech friend said he was concerned after looking at the seat pressures of the comp springs in conjunction with the crane cams.
get headwork to maximize the cranes, and expect 35-40 hp.
for crowers, should be the same. as cranes.

yea theyre the comp cams stage 3's with comp valve springs and steel retainers. so all i would need is a tune? how about any special tools for the actual install? and how difficult is it going to be?

Are you looking at doing this your self? I would have a shop do it, MM&FF had an article a few months back on cam swapping for the S197 with the stage III Comp Cams, valvesprings, and retainers. They stated that this was NOT something that should be done by anyone but professionals. They had specialized tools and accessories such as the valve spring compressor from ford etc. Look into it before deciding to do it yourself.

A cam install is NOT something for a shade tree mechanic.

I have heard that the stock cams on the S197 are very good from the factory so the gains aren't too significant for the aftermarket ones...plus they lose a little torque and I love torque

If you go back to Oct. of last year. BBR had some serious gains w/ their Stage I 3V cams. Spec wise. BBR's Stage I cams are close to the Comp Stage IV cams.
The test car they used in the article was at 351 RWHP w/ ported heads and Stage I cams.

heads alone only brought the car to about 330 rwhp.
