I think one is for normal cars and the extended one is for cars over 75,000 miles.

either way this is straight from their website www.mobiloil.com

You've never seen an oil like this before. Mobil 1® Extended Performance is a high-endurance motor oil designed for longer service intervals. It is a fully synthetic formulation that helps extend engine life, reduce oil breakdown and minimize engine wear -- all while helping to keep your engine clean. Improvements that add up to exceptional protection for 15,000 miles. Guaranteed

so instead of every 3,000 miles you can change it every 15,000 miles

Every 15,000 miles, huh. I'll stick to every 3,000 like my grandfather taught me to do

I can see changing the oil every 15000 and just doing the filter every 3000 with a quart for the filter or whatever it holds. Should save money and still be good for the car

They make longer lasting filters now too. I bought a fram filter that is supposed to be good up to 7,500 miles. I usually buy the long life filter and full synthetic oil and change my oil every 6,000 miles.

So if I do it every 3,000 miles I'm just wasting my money

Not really...you've gotta get the metal shavings and dust and carbon out of your engine, becaue the dust and carbon are corrosive in the oil, so it's good to change it at least every 6 months...since most of us aren't puting 15000 miles on that quickly...personally i change mine every 3000 since I got the supercharger, just to keep the engine clean and keep fresh oil betwen all the parts that hate the boost...

if you're still stock or close to then Ford only recommends every 5000. i read my little owners manual. funny thing is the tech's put the stupid little sticker saying to change it every 3000 when i take it to ford for the regular oil change. now with full synthetics i'll probably go 10,000 with one filter change in between.

It's true, I only change the oil in my F-150 every 5000, but that's still stock...congrats on the owner's manual, dude...if more ppl read those, there would be a lot of questions that would never make it to this forum...
