3.73 gears or 4.10 gears? I need to get away from the 3.31's

I have been searching on here for a while and looking around other places and can't get a good answer on what gears to get... I am definitely going with the Ford Racing gears, probably 3.73's or 4.10's... I was mainly wondering how big of a difference some of you guys experienced with these... I was thinking I might go with something along the lines of 3.90's since they are somewhere in between the two... What do you think... It will probably be some time before I go F/I with it and there aren't any interstates here to worry about high cruising speeds...

re gears

Mainly you need to decide what your combo is going to be. I noticed you plan on going with a supercharger. Will it be a twin screw or centri?Twin screws usually prefer less gear(3.55-3.73) where as the centris usually like 4.10s-4.30s. The 3.73 ratio is a good compromise, because you can play with tire size to get final gear ratio. M N H race tires has 2 diff 17 tires sizes, and BF or Mickey Thompson has the others. My wifes car has a Whipple with 3.73 gears and a 27.5 in tall tire and the street drivability is great. The car also runs low 11's as well on 12lbs boost. My 05 is in the 9's with stock 3.55 gears and a 30 in tall tire. Gears are not the most expensive mod, but its always better to buy somethig once. As for the 3.9s, they are a motive gear(not bad) but more difficult to setup, and most usually make noise. Motive does make the Ford Racing gears too, but the qaulity control for tolerances is stricter ,so the gears tend to be better. Just my opinion tho, in the end its still your car.

4.10's FTW. Get 'em professionally installed. average $450 to $600 total.

More fun than Magic Mountain and chicks love the ride, too!

get 4.10s. I just did. And I love it. But no matter what gear you get, you NEED a pro to at least HELP.

4.10's are best for everything except a twinscrew

3.73s. If you have the hp you dont need the gear to carry it so 3.73s will work great for a turbo cammed gt. When I build my stroker im getting rid of my 3.73s and going down to 3.25s because like I said if you have the HP you dont need the gear. All the gear is is a torque multiplyer

I am gonna have the Ford dealer here install them... I have done gears in the past... I know how and I know its a pain to get the teeth meshed perfectly sometimes... I just don't have the time and I don't want the dealer fighting me if I need something warranted... The are only charging me $390 labor for the install... I am definitely gonna go F/I but that will be way down the road and when I do I will be going with the Saleen from Brenspeed... However, it will be a good while down the road so I think I might just go ahead and do the 3.73... I guess it would make a big difference if I went 4.10 but I am sure I will still have fun with the bolt ons running 3.73...

re S/C

May want to consider the Whipple kit. There are some people making some real good numbers. The Whipple also has that crazy blower sound too, with 600 rwhp potential.

If you plan on making it a serious 1/4 mile car as well as street driving, you may consider going with 3.73's...if you're cranking out enough power with a 4.10 rear end, you may run out of gear and have to shift to 5th before the end of the track...in which case you'd be going back to a taller gear, like a 3.73...
