C&L Racer or JLT?

Ok all please weigh in on this if you have experience with either. I have narrowed down my CAI choices to the C&L Racer or the JLT for my 07 GT. I have seen good numbers on both, 5.0 Magizine quoted a 27 RWHP increase with the JLT and a tune and I have seen comparable numbers for the C&L also. So which one? I am leaning toward the C&L because of reputation but the JLT with tuner from Bama is $549, the C&L Racer is $625. That is a big difference so to me it comes down to performance. I will may more if it is worth it but would lake any opinions on both intakes that you have to offer.

one more for JLT. it is cheaper and for i think $25 you can get it color matched to your car. they both have the same gains so really it's up to you on which one you like more as far as price and looks go.

If you are going C&L, DO NOT get the racer intake...that is for high horsepower applications only...the C&L street is the one you should get...getting the racer intake is like getting LT's for FI when you are N/A

But there is no down side to getting the Racer intake if that's the one you want (based on cost or appearance). Doug at BamaChips and C&L's own website say that the performance of the Racer intake on a typical stock or mildly modified vehicle is basically the same as the Street intake. In fact, their dyno runs show that the Racer has a very slight (basically 1 HP) advantage at peak power, while the Street shows a similarly slight advantage at mid-range RPM's.

Here are their words, and the dyno results are attached:

Although the "Racer" system is larger than our original "Street" air intake and has greater flow capacity, testing has shown that performance is basically the same between the two. Only heavily modified Mustangs will generate more horsepower with the "Racer" intake assembly, and there is certainly no "downside" to using the "Racer" intake assembly in mild or stock applications (see dyno chart on left). It is our opinion that our original kit is of the ideal size for most people, and only those with more substantial modifications (such as ported heads and cams) will be able to find greater performance afforded by the larger "Racer" package. The dyno test seen on the left was performed by us on a totally stock manual transmission equipped 2005 Mustang GT during our calibration testing for the new "Racer" intake assembly. In addition to a stock baseline, you will also notice that we tested our original street/strip system to see how they compare to each other. Although the "Racer" system made anywhere from 1 to 1.27 more HP in the upper RPM's at peak, you will notice that the performance between the two systems was very similar throughout the entire RPM range, with the orignal "street/strip" kit making slightly more power throughout the midrange from 3,300 to 5,200 RPM. The performance was so similar that one would be hard pressed to be able to declare a clear winner in terms of overall performance.

thanks for the advice so far, keep the cooments coming. I beleve what I am getting from most ofyou is go JLT unless I plan on cams, or ported heads then the C&L's extra flow will be beneficial. I do plan on Heads and cams in the future so I would rather pay more now than in the future I guess. Its a tough dcision though they are both good products with loyal followings.

Well if you are eventually gonna go FI, get the JLT bc you will be wasting less money

C+L RACER is the only one I have experience with.It plus their canned tune only was an awesome gain.A little pricey yes,But a Nice piece.I have read some people were not too happy about the quality of the JLT,But since I have never seen one in person,No comment on that.C+L=Happy Mustang and buyer,No regrets!

I prefer the C&L racer intake. Its not too large, its light weight, low cost, and makes great power. It's also a real manufactured part with a rotomolded inlet tube.

if you want size, get the MMR intake.
steeda aslo has a built in velocity stack, with the high flow elbow, and makes more power than the jlt.
id say its between the c&L, steeda, and MMR intakes.
JLT is thrown in because of affordability.
