Second Gear Issue

How do you guys know if a car's synchros are shot... My car seems to be having issues with second gear, sometimes it won't enter if the car is sitting still, and its been grinding sometimes if I get on it... But sometimes I can step on it as hard as I can and it won't do it. This all happened tonight too, I punched it about 5 times and 3 of those times second, one time I even put it in neutral and then tried second and it still grinded?

Second for some reason always feels like it has to cross 2 gates from neutral, where it gets stuck most of the time, Its done this ever since it had about 2K miles, it has almost 7K now and the problem is getting worse.

I'm clueless, I could'nt replicate it after letting the car sit while I watched tonights fight, but managed to do it 3 times before the fight? I even put my shifter to the longest throw it can give and about 35% reduction and it did it on both settings, although it gave me the lockout issue with the stock shifter also.

Sounds like it's time to take it to the dealer. You just want to make sure they won't try and tell you it's because of the after market shifter, Luis. Might want to put the factory unit back on first.

Yeah, I'm doing that tommorow, I'm glad I bought me a thingy to go under the car easily. (I forgot the name, so sue me :p)

I think its been screwed for a while, the shifter eliminated it for 300 miles, but it came back with a vengence.

Yeah sounds like there is a transmission issue. If it were doing this in every gear, I would think clutch.

only second, it even did it once while downshifting... and I even did heel toe on that to align the revs and tranny...

i grind into second about 50 percent when speed shifting as well. I was told a kmember brace with torque limiterers will help...maybee my syncros are out as well...the car only has 11000 km on it and it only does it in second...never dowshifting though.

I don't know, man, I know mine gets stuck even if the car is off, so I kinda know its a transmission issue and not ti much torque. non of the other gears suffer this.

2nd gear synchros are always the first to go...but that's pretty low mileage to be having that problem.

yeah, but my car's been giving me issues ever since I got it... guess the whole I hate american cars for there issues will always be true for me.

luis, I have had this problem 3 times, went from the 1-2 syncro to the 3-4 syncro, and back. even stuck in 2nd gear.
I finally reached a deal with ford, and they put a new transmission in for $500 bucks, maybe a lil more.
But because they couldnt get it fixed.

man... the stock shifter is GARBAGE... feels like I'm using strings to shift the car... oh yeah, the issue is still there... was quite funny making the 1-2nd in slowmo and keeping it grinding until it went it.

Well, they didn't fix it... they found nothing wrong... well, I got home, grabbed my camera and in less than five minutes I got this 3 vids I will use as evidence next time I go to the stealership

Go to the gym and work out your left leg. Then it might be strong enough to push the clutch in properly

Mine did that initially after I installed my MGW shifter until I adjusted it properly. I suggest you buy an MGW. Dont know if it will solve your problem but it might help.

I have a MGW... I took it off to take it to the dealership... Still did it with the MGW
