2006 Mustang GT Rear Gear Swap?
Looking to have 4.10 gears put in my 06 Mustang GT. Need to find a reputable shop that can install and calibrate the speedo. They are telling me that I need to purchase a tuner kit for $400.00 to set the speedo right?! If that is correct then everyone would be spending like $900.00 to get gears, installation and calibration?! Just doesn't sound right to me. I live near Allentown, Pa. and could use some help getting these gears installed properly and not laying out a small fortune. Thanks in advance for any feedback you experienced guys may offer!

a tuner is the best way to calibrate the speedo, plus you need a tuner for most your other mods anyway, so you might as well get it.

Gear installs are definitally pricey, but definitally something you want to leave to the pros. As for the tuner, they are correct that you will need it to calibrate your speedo. But anything you do on these cars you will need a tune for. So this is something you will need regardless... So now or later, either way you will spend the cash. I would recomend Bama or Brenspeed. You can get an intake/tuner combo and get the custom tunes to fit your need through them.

+1 for the BAMA tunes.
Look into purchasing a tuner/CAI combo, it will save you a few dollars, and make a big improvement in the performance of your car. to MM.

Like everyone else mentioned, a CAI with a tune is a must!
I went with an SCT2and I originally had the Ford Racing Power Pack CAI/tune which had the stock air inlet tube with the CAI filter ass'y (same as the Saleen one) so I got the Steeda plastic inlet air tube, and the SCT tune. I didn't want to spend the extra money on another CAI, so I just got the inlet tube, otherwise I would have gotten a JLT or C&L CAI. My local shop quoted me $565.00 for FRPP gears and install, w/ Royal Purple synthetic fill, which I'll do after the Holidays. Goin' 3.73's because I have an auto, that sees mostly highway driving, also wanna go FI someday. The speedo can be re-calibrated with the SCT tuner. Did you check into shops for other prices such as Evolution in PA, or any in south Jersey? ( JDM, etc) BTW I 'm new here, I posted on the welcome page, but I wanna say this site is awesome! Hello all! Finally found a real Mustang site!!!

There was a regular, plain 'ol shop near my house...I dropped in to ask the owner about a gear swap...First he was gonna charge me like...$450 minimum. But It turned out (totally by chance) that the guy knew my dad for like...15 years. AND he was a hot rodder. HARDCORE hot rodder...so I ended up going to the shop 2 weeks later with my pops and the owner put my car up on the lift, and pretty much taught us how to do it, but helped obviously... It was great. I was done with the whole thing in like...4 hours, and it only cost $250. My gears went in perfect, and I haven't heard a sound out of them. DEFFINATLY pays to get a pro to do it. I was gonna "flat-back" it with my dad in our garage, but I'm SO glad we didn't.
Moral of the story...get good friends with someone good...soon. Then have him "help" you...not do all of it while you sit at home. Worth a shot at least.
