Need Help! Exhaust (Headers)

Hey guys!
I'm a college student down in tempe az at ASU which means i don't have the most money! I need to finish my exhaust but want to know which would be best of my two choices:????

1. I got a buddy who works for a shop... his boss has told me i can get kooks long tube headers through him at cost and i've called a local muffler shop and he has agreed to put them on for me catless and custom pipes to my mufflers. (and i can bring him a x or h pipe)

2. Ive been looking at that kooks 1 5/8" long tube with 2 1/2"high flow-cats and x pipe system...... $1269.00 is the problem! From BRENSPEED

What is the best way out? i will pay for what is best not the easy way out.

Thanks alot!

First question is do you have to do emissions testing? And second question is do you mind the smell of gasoline?

A buddy of mine said that if you use LT headers that you burn oil quicker. How true is this statement.

Doesn't sound true to me, well at least I've never heard anyone complain before.

You could run Mac headers and o/r pro chamber for about $800. The Kooks are top of the line but you don't have to spend that much.

No, arizona is funny, if you fail 3 times in a row you get approved anyway because you paid the testing place $30 by that time haha....and how bad is the smell? i love it personally but i mean will my car smell like the pits at a race track?

It probably won't be that bad, but that is something to consider. Personally I'd go catless in your shoes. Down the rode it won't be too expensive to throw them in if you want. Though don't expect a significant power increase vs having them with cats.

alright so ill go catless, if it's going to sound better (in my opinion) and it'd be cheaper... but what do i bring the guy at the muffler shop on top of the headers? X or H and what company?

Also be advised that if you go with Long Tube you will require a custom tune for that due to the lag time in the O2 Sensors being relocated. You are also going to need the O2 extenders.

Not if he goes catless, then the O2s need to be tuned out.

X or H is pretty much sound preference. I hear that the Hs supposedly sound more muscularly, but I've heard a few sound like ass. Then I guess you'd pick out an axleback unless you want to keep the stock mufflers which then you just need to X or H. You should listen to sound clips of both of them to help you decide.

I've got underdrive pulleys, airaid intake, super 40 mufflers, and sct tuner by brenspeed so i can tune whatever i need. i am looking for that muscle-ish tone so i'll look around for good H pipes (thanks!) and in reference to the O2 sensors.... what do i do, tune them out and tape them to the underside of my car?

Well I honestly don't know, I kept the cats on my car. I have no idea as to put them, some one on here who is catless would probably have a better answer to that, assuming you can't just remove them. You do have to tune them out, I just don't know what to do with them physically.

well then your going to want the Long tubes, i agree with Redfire and go with the MAC setup. it sounds great and gives good power, all you need is a new tune just in case your car starts to run a lil too lean because of the Longtubes.

But going Kooks and catless might be a little better for power now, and with future mods probably better down the road. If he wants to save some money I don't blame him, the difference in the MAC and Kooks could go toward other mods. I'm just saying that the Kooks are better than the MAC. Also I know you didn't mean to, but your post made it sound like the kooks aren't long tubes, and they are. I'm just saying that in case he gets confused.
