Looking For Info

Let me start with some personal background first, I just retired from active duty and have not worked on a car other than basic maintance in over 20 years. Now, I have an 07 GT/CS and have the time and a few G's set aside to begin upgrading. The problem is that I have no idea where to start.

This will probably be a slow moving long term project. Not looking to build a car for the track just want to add a little more ass to the gas if you know what I mean. I am also a litte vain so looking to improve the exhaust rumble as well.

any advise is appreciated!!

welcome to the forums.

Their are a few military guys here including myself.

search around the forums a bit to get an idea of what you want to do to your ride.

for first mods for your car I would suggest a good Cold Air intake and a tune.
than a set of lower gears for the rear end.

I agree with HMUSN... I would start out with an intake and tune package and gears. Then I would add charge motion plates, underdrive pullies, short throw shifter, long-tube headers, X or H pipe of your choice and whatever tailpipes you like. This will set you car apart from the rest but not be anything too jerky as you dont want a track car... This will add up to a couple grand as well...

if you like loud and obnoxious then i'd go with some long tubes, o/r x pipe, and some slp loudmouths.

in general i'm with ^them. JLT or C&L CAI and tune. i haven't done gears personally, but that will be a very good mod to do. i just haven't gotten around to it. if you're looking to put a SC on it then skip the UDP's. i don't think you can use the plates with it either, but i'm not sure

i'm also one of the many military on here. fort hood, texASS

welcome! Jlt cold air intake and sct from bamachips or brenspeed would be my first mod...makes a HUGE difference. Then listen to mustang exhaust clips on youtube and pick out one u like. I'd skip the midpipe at first and put the $ towards gears next. Good luck

Welcome I like the bolt on's but they dont have the same effect they had on the old cars because its a lot more expensive to compound them. For example then you usually go to aftermarket heads and then cams but the price of them with port work and everything else can be in excess of 4k. I put a bunch of bolts ons and im still not where i want to be>> the cost about $2600. Now im keeping the full after market exhaust and going with the supercharger and tune. But thats just my opinion its all about the direction you personally want to go. Good luck

the charge motion delete plates will work with all centrifugal superchargers, all turbos, and all nitrous kits. the only superchargers it won't work with is the kenne bell, whipple, saleen, and roush

Do they respond better .. or is it because they have a higher base line?

On the dynos I've seen thus far, I think they respond slightly better (3-5rwhp) ... mod for mod. And I really attribute that with the tune.

Basic mods are still the way to go; CAI, gears and exhaust.
Agree, with menace07, heard nothing but good about Bamachips. Have a buddy with an 07 vert ... smiles all day after the mod.

Yes. It's a Whipple, which is an excellent unit.

Welcome fellow vet

Definately go with CAI w/tune first. probably your biggest hp gain and you will need the tuner for future tunes anyway. That should hold your need for speed over so you can address a few of those "vain" issues. Tint your windows. Around $150.00 and you will thank me later for the suggestion. Next is Exhaust and like the rest of the gang said what you go with as far as brand depends entirely on what you want for an exhaust sound. Personally I go with Bassani X pipe w/cats (California) and Flowmaster American Thunder axlebacks but my car is LOUD. That should satisfy your modding urge and the chicks will love it! IMAO of course...

Actually they do. We can pick up 40 rwhp from a CAI and tune, UDPs and other minor stuff.

FI will probably come later for him when he gets bit by the mod bug and can't help himself. But yeah as everyone said CAI with a tuner, then some 4.10 gears together they will make a serious difference. Then for the exhaust that boils down to personal preference. Make sure to listen to clips of different axle backs and x and h pipes to decide which one you want.

Thanks everyone, Lots of great info and it is appreciated, I am purchasing a CAI and Tune today and leaning toward changing the gears also. I will probably wait on the exhaust until spring. Thanks
