Procharged Guys- U Wanna Come In Here

Alright, I'm in the midst of a project of which I've got a few pieces being made but just can't wait to show you guys what I'm doin..

The procharged guys all have one major thing that just sucks about the blower, the air filter is against the damn firewall hovering over a smoldering hot engine..

Enter emay's invention.

The Parts not seen right now as I'm having them made: 100 degree angle Inlet tube with welded bung for PCV line, and the just ordered larger 9" long 6" diameter 4"inlet flange K & N filter..

I've found a way to snake dryer duct down along the fender well past the sway bar to right in front of the driver's side wheel. Basically getting me fresh, cold, power making air directly through my cervinis front bumper cut outs. You wouldn't need the bumber, air inlet temperature at the nose of the car with a normal bumper would be significantly cooler before being intercooled even further.

Can't avoid using the dryer duct, you need the flexibility for the path, as ghetto as it looks right now, wait to see my finished project, it's going to look slick and fairly un-noticible once done.

Shot through the fender:

Apology of this one, I'm shootin pics off the ground best I can to show the new filter location. Ignore my beat up old test filter. The White PVC will be approximately 2" longer prior to heading into the filter..

The steel hard bracket will hold everything about where the white wire tie is at in this picture:

Shot from up top at inlet point of blower as mentioned previous new custom 100 degree angle inlet pipe will be here so I can gain as much room as possible toward the shock tower before angling down and towards the front:

Once all my custom pieces are back and test fitted, I'm sending em in for powder and I'll have final pics...

Looks like a good idea, but I'm with jat... What if you get caught in a storm? Maybe some sort of heat/water shield along the bottom and sides, and some drain holes in the bottom of said shield just in case... Just a thought. Still a good idea.

I knew you guys would be bringing that up, but the filter is not in direct way of being hit by water. The filter is basically about 6" below the headlamp once bracketed in..

While my car isn't a DD and normally won't be in any rain, I do get caught occasionally.

Anyway, I assure you there won't be any hydro-locking going on here. Already accounted for that in positioning things.

Have you tested the dryer duct hose on any kind of vacuum system? I'd hate to see the plastic get sucked off the hose skeleton and into your engine.

Nice work Emay, this is a great idea. Definitally should take the IAT down a little, which is definitally a good thing... I cant wait to see your finished product, I know it will look good. Once your done, you should put together a parts list on this...

Even so. I'm just wondering if dryer duct tube is over engineered enough to handle the sort of vacuum a blower can generate. I love the idea, even if one just wanted to use it for a CAI.

Already down that path. Hoping the inlet tube can be had for cheap with powder even for those that don't have a hook up.

nice man !! If you go to a HVAC supply company they will be able to hook you up with black plastic hose very similar to the ones on shop vacuums (Flexable pvc). I used it once for the same thing and it works great and looks good as well. good luck and let me know how the project goes

I thought about it but I have to pass a little too close to the front cylinder / header, while there's space I wouldn't be comfortable with anything but a metal substance in that section.

No hanging, just suffering from this damn snow we are getting up here.. No time to get in the garage and work after I plow the damn driveway. Actually there's time, there's no motivation.

I sent the upper intake piece in for powder and prior drilled and tapped that PVC line in. (by the way I got away with using a short 90 degree elbow, rather than a 110). 10 bucks for the stainless tube and I had to plasma cut just a bit off to leave space for getting down in front of the strut tower. I'm trying to also work an oil seperator into the mix so I'm not recycling the blow by back to the throttle body.

Honestly my only worry is the dryer duct, but I have a friend whom works at Car X stopping by Friday to let me know if he things he can mock up 3" intercooler tubing with multiple couplers to allow flexing. I'm only worried about the dryer duct because I want it to stay on a specific path and it's ability to move will cause me to use wire ties on it. I'm affraid the wire tires will cut into the duct with engine movement. We'll see..

I'll keep you all in the loop as the parts begin going back in.. I'll also see about getting a pick of the raw inlet tube on here tomorrow.
