Exhaust Leak?

I put on a Pypes offroad H-Pipe yesterday to complement my Borla cat-backs. At idle, it sounds pretty good and LOUD. Accelerating, it almost sounds like there is an exhaust leak because I hear a fluttering ba-ba-ba-ba sound like a lot of air rushing out from underneath my car.

Does anyone having this setup have the same noise? I wish I could be more precise, but without recording it, that's the best I can do.

Have you gone looking for the leak, assuming there is one? And just in case, I have to ask if you used the gaskets when you installed it?

You beat me..I was just about to ask if anyone knows how to check for leaks, as I do not. As for gaskets, I didn't see any in the box. Just some stickers and a magnet. Where would the gaskets go, anyway? I just haven't seen any gaskets with the kits I've purchased. I bought a Bassani X-Pipe a while ago and it didn't come with any. If the Pypes were supposed to, I reckon I'll be on the phone with them to ask where they were at. There is nothing in the instructions about that either.

Well Idk if they were supposed to with them. I've never done exhaust work without gaskets. They would where the pipes connect. Unless of course this was a weld job and not a bolt job. Me personally, I've never checked for gas leaks, but I've seen father do it plenty of times and uses soapy water, covers the pipes with it and looks for where bubbles are being made.

Soapy water trick sounds like an excellent idea. I should have thought of that--same as with a hole in an inner-tube. Cool--thanks!

Interesting. In my unprofessional listening, it sounds like it comes from there. Did you experience the same puffing sound I tried to describe?

Traditionally an exhaust leak would make more of a ticking sound ( tik tik tik tik tik ) rather than a puffing sound ( ba ba ba ba ba ba ). You really should be able to feel the exhaust coming out of the leak, as it will be hot and noisy. I have never tried the soapy water on an exhaust leak, only on tire leaks... But then again, people only bring their cars to the dealer when their muffler is draging the ground or in the back seat, which makes it a little easier to find the leak...
