New Crank Bolt for UDP's - which one?
This is the second car that I put my MotoBlue UDP kit on and unfortunately I reused the crank bolt and from what i hear it is a one time use. Now the Ford service dept is telling me that it is loose and causing irregular signals to be sent to my CPU, which is causing issues with spark and and timing... Not sure if this is the case, but the shop foreman really put some time in and thinks this is the problem.
The motoblue pulleys came with a different bolt, maybe because it is a one time use, but they have not customer service to call and ask. Can I use a NEW stock Ford crank bolt or do I need a different one from MotoBlue due to length or some other issue? |

not familiar with the motoblue kit but i know steeda UDP comes with an install bolt which is longer to assist in pulling the harmonic balancer pulley on. Then you remove that bolt and install the stock bolt. The bolt would need to be the same length to line up the trigger wheel to the crank sensor. Not sure what the car is doing, as far as your concern, but if you lose crank signal the car won't run. Hope that helps The botl is in fact a one-time use because it is torque to yield, but in all honesty us techs reuse them all the time when doing timing chains and belt on other vehicles, with no issues, if the pulley is in fact loose, then the bolt is either loose or too long, also make sure the pulley is seated correctly and pressed on all the way.

Thanks. I am going to get a new factory bolt today to rule it out. The car starts bucking @ 2500 or so RPMs at when trying to keep the pedal steady.
They said the readings at the MAF and the throttle body are diff than what the CPU is reading. He changed the Throttle body with one from a new car and it still did the same thing. No engine codes are present. |
