the tire is just like gears the shorter tire has less distance to make a complete revolution than a taller tire, it changes the effective gear ratio from the trans, rear gears, and tires

So 18s vs 17s, which one would be better accelerating, and which one better for top end speed?

a tire with a smaller diameter will produce higher torque whereas a larger diameter will allow for a higher top speed... but, what i'm not sure of is, does the outer diameter of the tire change though when moving from a 17" to an 18" wheel, or do you just put on a lower profile tire with the same outer diameter?

as long as the diameter stays the same nothing changes in the gear ratio
Example- 255/50/17- 27.4" tall 285/40/18- 27.4" tall the rim is bigger but they use a shorter sidewall tire to keep the height the same. Those numbers are not accurate, i just pulled that out my ass so don't take those numbers literally

went from the stock 17" to 20" and have the same diameter due to low profile tires
