Nitrous Questions

So I pretty much decided that my car needs nitrous as opposed to S/C or turbo, mostly because of the price and how often I will really need the extra power... and so I can have a purge valve!

I am looking at the ZEX kit (p/n 82034) which is designed specifically for our model car. I saw the guys on muscle car put in a system and bump up RWHP by 61 with a 75 shot.

Before I pull the trigger on anything though, I want to make sure I understand what I am getting myself into. From what I have read, I should not activate the nitrous at less than 2500 RPM, and that makes sense, BUT does that mean I should not arm the system until I am at 2500 RPM? I'd like to roll up to the line, arm the system, purge and then floor it. If I do that, will the nitrous kick on as soon as I hit WOT? Or when I hit 2500 RPM? Do I need a 'window switch'? Does the NMU (Nitrous Managment Unit) that ZEX supplies with the kit take car of all this for me? Am I correct in assumming that flooring the gas = WOT? Do I need to back off the throttle before shifting gears (I have manual trans)? Or do I need to completely disarm the system before shifting to avoid blowing up my engine?

I have learned a lot in the past few weeks about F/I and nitrous systems, but these questions have been bothering me and a lot of people have a lot of opinions. I was hoping a few guys (and gals?) around here would have some knowledge? I'd love to hear from someone with the same kit on an 05+ GT w/ manual transmission, but anyone willing to share some info would be greatly appreciated.

I would definetly get a window switch so it won't spray in first gear and until you reach a certain RPM. Arming the system means that once you punch it and it clears that preset RPM it will spray. You don't have to disarm the system to shift. If you powershift right it won't hurt anything, but if you lift off the gas to shift then it will stop spraying because it is no longer at WOT, then after you shift and floor it again it will start spraying agian.

I have the speedtech 100 shot in my car set up with a window switch and purge kit.
When at the track I do my burnout then pull up to stage, before actually staging I arm purge then arm the system. the window switch is set to start spraying at 3000rpm and stop spraying at 6000rpm in every gear.(My car is an AUTO) the only thing you have to have some good tires to spray in first gear. also don't spray in overdrive.
The window switch allowes the system to engage-disengage on it's own.and only at WOT.
with the 100 shot I gained 73RWHP and 111RWT
Nitrous is addicting, makes the car feel broken when your not using it.

Thats why I could never do nitrous. I would spray it every 5 minutes and always run out of it. Either a supercharger or turbo for me. I want boost all the time.

I did not even think of losing traction in first gear with the nitrous, good call. I'll have to add that to the buy list. Also, I guess those new, wider tires are going to be in my near future too now!

I am planning on using the 75 shot until I make sure everything is all wired right and I am having no problems. Then (after some new spark plugs) I will be upgrading to the 100 shot. I think skipping first gear is a good idea initially, until I do the tires atleast...

As far as setting up the window switch, is 3k-6k rpm pretty standard?

Not sure what's standard,I guess that depends on your tuner.
I have mine set that way to have a safe tune my car shifts at 6200 at WOT so backed off the window switch to 6000 not to shock the rear end too bad between gears.
You gain alot of torque on initial spray.
Best bet is even though it's not required for the 75 shot have your car dyno tuned for it to make sure the A/F ratio is where it should be.

This ZEX kit says that it will never run too lean or too rich, because the amount of nitrous sprayed depends on bottle pressure.

I don't know of any dynos around me, but I got Doug from bamachips.com to give me some new tunes for my JLT CAI and X-Cal 2. I know a dyno would be in my best interest, but I was not planning on doing it.
