Brenspeed Com NSR Cams ?
Has installed and used the Brenspeed Com Cams NSR (No springs required) cam shafts ? They look like a good value especially in installation costs.

I have been looking at those for weeks. Let me know if find anything out. Did you read the tech article on them on brenspeeds site and see the dyno sheet? The car is an auto though so its hard to tell what we would see.

yeah, I like the price mid $600 range with no need to change out the springs so they are in effect a plug and play part Brenspeed even says they dont require a tune, though I would think a tune would help the numbers. Right now I am trying to decide between a Spyder Shaft or these NSR Cams. The hard part for me is that I have herd issues with the spyder shaft on lowered cars, even when the pinion angle is corrected. So by the time all is said and done I thing the Cams for slightly more money would give me more until I can fully explore the aluminum driveshaft concerns I have. What do you think?

I talked to the guy ray leonard about the spydershaft. He lives about 15 minutes from me. leonardperformance.com I think. He said the S197s have a lot of harmonic issues and the two peice drive shaft ford uses hides a lot of that and keeps down on noise and vibration. He said anything off on your car and the one peice aluminum drive shaft will bring it out. I decided not to get one for now. maybe down the road. Performance wise its a great thing but like you said, i can add performance other ways and do some things i think i would enjoy more.
The one thing that concerns me about the cams is the loss of tq. In the articles in the tech section on brenspeed.com they have a right up on the nsr stage III cam and the regular stage III cam. The nsr cam they put on an automatic car so tq is low anyway and it loses about 8 pounds low end. If you read the article with the regular stage III cam they do that on a manual that has just about full bolt ons. They lose like 10plbs of peak tq, and the dyno sheets they have are not matching the numbers they are giving in the article. I dont know what happened there. If they are losing 10lbs of tq up top what are they losing low end? I dont know if I want to give up 20 plb of tq to gain 30 peak hp? They get some tq back when they add a throttle body and change the cai to a racer intake though. I would like to understand that some more. But i would like to get a cammed sound out of my stang and of course more power would be great. i just wish i could do it without losing any tq. I talked to seth at brenspeed and ask him if they were going to put a sound clip of the car that has the nsr cam on it. He said that was a good idea and he might do that when the car comes down of the lift. That would be nice. I ask him how it sounded and he said the idle just a little rougher than stock. He said you can tell it has something done to it. He said it sounds good. |

Redfire, if it were up to me I would get the BBR stage 2 or the Comp stage 3 but dont want to pay the extra thousand dollars fro all the labor and parts necessary. I can get the NSR cams 20+ hp increase and no need to replace the springs heck If I really wanted to I could probibly change the cams my self and save more money. well see I'm still looking into it, seems like a no brainer.

All the cams that make enough power to justify the cost require new springs.

well im thinking like killermach, for 600 bucks and if i get the needed tool i could probably put them in myself. 25 hp for 600 is decent. same as a cai/tune package. And the regular stage IIIs dont gain that much more hp and cost a lot more with the springs and labor.

When you say upset about the sound do you mean it sounds bad or just that it sounds stock. And do you know by chance what you picked up, hp and tq with your cams?

subscribing...interested in the cams that you don't need to replace springs. I also would like the rumble of a cammed car, I mean power matter also, But I don't plan on building my block for a year or 2 and I am already going to be at 450rwhp. I do not want to push the stock internals anymore than that.

I'll be posting like crazy in a few months, when I get back from Afghanistan it's on. I'll have a weeks worth of installation ahead of me. Hopefully my wife can get the suspension and cams installed by a shop prior to my return and then all I will have to do is the Shifter, CAI, Tune, and exhaust.
