Effect Of Cold Weather On Poly Bushings
It's rather cold here in southeast Michigan. Is it normal for poly bushings to squeek a bit when it is so cold outside?

Control arms with poly bushings will always squeek because the poly bushing tries to rotate in the control arm. The only half-fix is to keep pumping in grease to the zerk fitting, but even that doesn't really cure the problem.
Control arms with poly bushings and a delrin sleeve between the bushing and the control arm bolt allow the bolt to rotate inside the bushing, without trying to rotate the bushing. (Delrin is a self-lubricating hard nylon material). This eliminates the need for using any grease, and eliminates the squeek. It also stops the bushing from breaking down over time because of the grease. Squeek-free and maintenance free. |
