How Do Remove A 2005 GT Rearview Mirror?

Just bought a replacement mirror with Auto-dimming, Compass, and Temp. Need to figure out how to SAFELY remove the original '05 mirror. Any ideas?

I looked all over the bracket and can't see a set screw? I just don't want to break the windshield by prying anywhere I shouldn't of course. There is a wavy-looking opening at the top of the bracket but I can't feel a screw there? I tried with small jewler's screw drivers and a torx bit. There seems to be a middle panel on the bracket. I wonder if the screw is under this panel? Just don't want to hurt my "baby".

i would just ask the service department at your local ford dealer. as long as they don't try to get you to let them do it. most of the time they are able to tell you simple things like this

When I went and got my windows tinted, the guy just applied a little, well maybe a little more than a little, upward pressure on the rearview to get it off. You just have to apply a little force. Hope that helps you out!

Removing the mirror is simple, Carefully pull off the mirror control switch all together with the triangular trim. (the control switch stays in the trim piece) gently unplug the wire harness. Be careful! The plug has a locking tang. Then just remove the three nuts and washers that retain the mirror. Oh, One more thing, place a rag under the nuts and washers so they dont drop inside the door. (I did NOT find this out the hard way) lol.

I suggest going to your local glass shop. We call them out to do this kind of work because they have all the experience in this kind of mirror removal. It is similar to the Taurus and Crown Vics, I have seen several people crack the windshield doing this. It is cheaper to have them remove it, than it is to buy another WIndshield because you accidentally crack it.
