4.10 install in mid feb.

I've been putting it off because the first and only quote I got was for $750. I called Nexgen in Hayward, CA and their fee is $350 so I'm bumping up the install to Feb, and getting a tuner.

4.10 is great if you don't need first gear or if you plan to do Drag Radials or full slicks. If this is a DD I would suggest 3.73s. If you got it figured out, great, but I only have 8.5" wide wheels and can't go 4.10s.

4:10 Gears

I installed 4:10 gears in my '06 GT last year and pulled them out after about 350 miles. Yes, the accelleration is just blinding, BUT....I hate not being able to use 1st gear. I've got everything else you can bolt on short of forced induction and I couldn't keep the rear wheels frm spinning in first gear even when I tried. It's definitely a modification that makes an immediate difference. Just not for me. I went back to the stock 3:55s and I'm pretty happy with that decision. Although, I'm certain a blower is in the cards for my car this year after I'm done with some further suspension mods.

I hear ya. I have 3:55's and the pirellis couldn't handle that, so I went to some 255 kumho's which were more fun and gripped better, but you still weren't in the clear until second gear in the mid rpm range. Now I have 275/50 M&H Drag radials. They grip so well that rather than spin the wheels, the opposite happens, the engine bogs if I'm not well into the powerband.

Like every mustang owner, I plan to SC (centrifugal), but since that's on hold until we get our house and move, I guess I'll just be doing the gears, rubber, a tuner, driveshaft, flywheel, and watts link (to get rid of the speed bump giggle). And even with the SC I'm not looking for crazy numbers so I'm hoping that the 4.10's will be a good match for the low boost centri charger. If not, they'll have to go.

im doin 4.10's also soon, my bumper problem has delayed this though. deep dish helps with the spinning, even with 4.30's.

If by pussy you mean the guy that puts all the developed Hp to the ground...count me in!

365 RWHP gets you consistent 12.8s
460 RWHP with the wrong tires gets you consistent 12.8s

It's not size that matters, it's how well you use your package that impresses.

If you're just gonna get new tires and not new rims, the nitto's are probably best for the money. If you gonna get new tires, why not save up a little more and get the rims who want with it? tires usually cost about the same as rims.

Take a look at the gear sticky. Grip isn't really the issue unless you're racing. 4.10's shortens the range of your gears, when shifting through most gears past 1st it doesn't matter much. I mean, I've got 3.55s and 2nd gear easily goes into the 50mph's. But I usually don't use 1st past 20mph for daily driving. I'd imagine when I get 4.10s I'd be moving into 2nd awfully quick or just starting out in 2nd all the time.

my opinion is always plan for the future with mods, i went with 4.30 thinking i was never going to do much with the car and 2 months later i had a kenne bell on it and 1st and 2nd gear were useless, so i paid again for a new set of 3.55 and rebuild kit to put them back in and someone to do it. now i look atleast a year in the future and think what i might want to do and see if what i want now will work with what i might want in the future

I'll remind my wallet never to let me touch 4.30 gears.

I've never modified any car I've owned until this one. It's fun, but yeah, some money get's wasted in the long run. Right now I've got 275/50 M&H DR's, 4.10's soon, a watts link and springs in June and then I've got to take a break to settle into the new house for a few years. But ultimately I'm going to try a centri at low boost, and use the 4.10's to do a little more of the torque converting than 3.55's. My girlfriend will probably "authorize" me to spend for a drive shaft and an aluminum flywheel during our settle in period. Then I just take good care of the car and see how long it goes without breaking something. A six speed sounds fun, but I don't know much about transmissions and I noticed that 5th gear in the T56 (I think) is still one to one.

Also, is correcting the pinion angle always necessary when the car is lowered?

Depends on how much it's lowered? Some extensive writeups I've read on it say the geometry is fine until you go down more than 1.25" - 1.5".

Very interested in how your Watts link helps and how much work it takes to install.

Getting a plan for modding this thing reminds me of my other money hole hobby of building gaming computers. Best to plan for obsolence of the cheap parts when dropping in the expensive parts over the long run. Better than having to swap out expensive parts in order for cheap ones to fit.

it is definitely recommended to adjust the pinion angle, if not you can get some driveshaft vibration at higher speeds if not if the car is lowered.

the 5th gear in a t56 is usually .82 and 6th is .6X, only 4th is 1 to 1, i would also recommended a steel flywheel because it holds more inertia on take off and offers more torque because of more rotating mass<--- I am swapping to an 8 bolt billet steel one with new motor
