Sup folks. I've been out awhile.
Im already thinking about my next stang. I have an 07 GT and looking close at the next major body change in 2012, I believe.
Now given that gas will most likely be almost 5$ a gallon by 2012, what are your thoughts on engine on 12 and 20013 models ? Remember the mid 70's and the almost death of muscle cars with the gas wars?
I've seen concept pics of the 2012, and a ton of HP and engine rumors. Nothing for 2013.
I've heard 5.0 return; twin turbo v6; 5.4 as standard GT...its all over the place.

I want the TT V6... just because I love the sound of turbos... fuck... it can come in 4 cyl 4 all I care as long as it has a Turbo with a cum gushing BOV sound

dunno bout u but i love the sound of a V8 way to much to get a v6 even if i it does have a turbo...

I heard rumors of a small liter high compression engine. With added power available from a turbo. V6 will replace v8, 4cyl will replace v6.

Gas will be well above 5$ per gallon long before 2012. It's already $4.23 per gallon for 87 and $4.48 for 91 in NoCal. right now.

I would be happy with a small v8 with a turbo. There was a thread about this awile ago and it had an article about what Ford has planned for the future mustang engine. If you want to search for it. I think it was like 3 months ago.

I live in SoCal and we dont pay that much. Cali for sure has the highest prices in the Continental U.S. Stupid special formula, but anyways its like $3.45 a gallon. I think you meant a 3 instead of a 4

No way!!! Why is gas so much more up there? I havent heard that yet? That makes me want to throw up. That means prices down here will be that price very shortly.

they are trying the TT v6 out on the lincolns first, they will run 350 hp. and the new boss engines will try out on the f150's first around 2009. i might go for 1 of those new lightnings if they come out in 09-2010

I was just going off of a ABC7 news report that was broadcasted yesterday. They posted the prices on the 5:00 report I believe.
That would be cool. I lived in YL for a short time back in the early 80's. Oh and to answer your question, I'm about 2 - 3 miles from D-land.

The average car will be getting more than 50mpg by then. This time next year I will be able to buy a 50 states emissions legal car for between $30k to $50k that gets 35-45 mpg and will do 0-60 in 6 seconds. The new electric cars will be out then, 100mpg+ diesel/electric hybrids will be out then. The only downside I see is they won't sound like a V8. Pretty big downside, so I'm holding on to my Mustang.

But... I don't see gas being $5 a gallon then. California may well secede from the union and form a New Californian Socialist Republic Paradise for Workers (heh) but gas in the rest of the country won't be there. It's around $3 - $3.45 in Illinois and was big news when it broke $2 around 2000 - 2001. When gas hits $5 a gallon, mark my words, politicians (irregardless of effing parties) will start losing jobs.

But as for Mustangs in 2012... I thought the redesign was coming in 2010? Or is that just a body refresh, wouldn't that mean a new platform will be oiut... 2014-2015?

Another interesting thing is that up to 2004 we werent actually really paying more than we did in the 70's Due to inflatin rates if you calculate it out, (I got this from a statistical abstract from the U.S.) 1978- $1.52, 1981- $2.43, 1991- $1.45, 1997- $1.46 2001- 1.68, 2004- $2.00. So if you actually look at it in this way we arent paying more. Its just that everything has increased in price. A little interesting fact.

No way in hell as you proclaim: "The average car will be getting more than 50mpg by then" be reality. 2012, just 3 years and 9 months from now, will be lucky to average 38. Fuel cell technology will have progressed considerably, but will still be too pricey for reasonable consideration.
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the known universe, so engineering a mechanism to use it is effficiently and cheaply is the priority.
Good god, you are talking of things some 20 years in the future, not 3.5.
