Steetable daily driven S197 that keeps up with a C6 Z06 (no nitrous)
This is my hypothetical "dream build" for my '08 GT.
I'd like the car to be capable of running with a stock C6 Z06 in the 1/4 mile. I'm guessing that means in the neighborhood of an 11.50 1/4 mile. The Mustang must be street friendly for 20K miles per year as a daily driver, meaning the suspension and drivetrain should remain "driver friendly" similar to the stock GT is now. Don't want to run around on slicks, tires need to be good in the Texas weather (no frozen stuff, but rain). NO NITROUS, forced induction seems to be a given. Is this practical and possible? I'm thinking forged internals, cams and head work, full exhaust and a twin screw SC for the horsepower. 3.73 gears and some fine tuning of the suspension and wider rear tires for the traction. MGW shifter, stronger clutch, aluminum driveshaft to hangle the added stress. Upgraded brakes to stop it. Sounds timely and expensive. That's why it's not happening right now, but I'd like to work towards this in the future. |

it is definitely possible. if i were in your boat, i'd go with a turbocharger. they are capable of making crazy horsepower, as long as you don't launch in the boost, you will get a better traction launch than you would with a twin screw, there is no parasitic loss with a turbo, not near as much wear and tear on the engine as you'd get with a twin screw, and as long as you stay out of the boost, you will get decent gas mileage over the twin screw

With everything you have listed you should be faster than 11.50's.

Very possible if you have the money, KB is building his similiar to what you mentioned. He would probably have the best input on the pros/cons, and ability

I'm thinking that a stock C6 Z06 can do 11.50 on its street tires, so I'd want to be able to be competitive with that. The Mustang has a hard enough time hooking up bone stock, with all the added power I'm afraid traction against a Vette would be a big problem. |

In fact, this new Mustang is a new type of performace to me. I'm used to an old style V8 and this new fangled drive by wire 6250 RPM revving tiny V8 is much different from the fast cars I've owned and driven in the past. I'm still not sure I like it, but it sure is comfortable and reliable compared to an older "hot rod". |

Its definitely possible, I'm kinda shooting for that right now, have a shortblock from MMR, whipple, tons of suspension stuff, new wheels and tires, 3.73s, driveshaft and possibly transmission items (still up in the air about needing/benefiting from a torque converter and master upgrade transmission kit) just waiting to get done when I get back in country.

just an FYI: jamie furman ran a 10.98 @ 130mph in a bone stock c6 z06 with the stock goodyear runflat tires. chances are you'll never come across somebody in a c6 z06 capable of driving one that good, but if you want to make sure you can beat ANY stock c6 z06, you might want to raise your goals lol

nah, driving a normal C6, but not a Z06 yet. I know they are awesome cars though, I was impressed with the C6.

Try forged internals and a centri blower... Should put you right where you wanna be... Mid 11's isn't very hard to achieve with just under 10g's... But, can probably be achieved much cheaper... I'm shooting for that range with my Procharger setup that I am installing this weekend... But I run ET streets at the track... And stocker 18 inch KDWS's on the street... I ran 12.99 here with intake, exhaust, tune, and gears with my ET streets on... The DA sucks here so factor the DA into an SAE standard and thats around a 12.4... And thats with bolt ons...

I hope to run mid-11s at least, hopefully low 11s on the track with slicks.
