Tune Question

I have been reading the MM forum for a few months and hear alot about getting a "tune" done. I had a Roushcharger installed on my mustang when it was brand new and they sent the computer brain up to Roush to reprogram it. They said I had to burn 93 octane fuel or risk blowing up my motor. Is that considered a tune or should I be checking out a dyno tune place? Naturally if there is more power easily available I want it. Thanks Norm

hmm I'm not too sure but I believe when they reprogrammed your computer that is a tune. Tunes are pretty much when you change around the cars programming so you can modify it's idle rpms etc..

almost every car is different if you want it done right take it to get dyno tuned where the shop will read the air/fuel ratios and tweak the timing and turn on/off stuff, and a lot of neat tricks with aftermarket stuff like SCT or Diablo. they will provide dyno printouts, not sure where you are located but here is a link to a local shop of ours so you can see general costs: dtp racing

if roush did the computer re-programming and i am guessing a real roush racing place installed the SC then it was probaly tuned mildly becuase it sapposed to keep the factory warrenty and what have you. but if you get it tuned you could get more ponies out of it. and roush most likley installed a their standard "4.6l 3v super charger 6 psi." program but every engine/mod is a little differnt, custom tune couldnt hurt.

Thanks guys! I apprecite all the answers and opinions. Next question....what do they typically charge for a dyno tune? I'd hate to get ripped off for more than it's worth.

I highly recommend a dyno-tune. After having Procharger installed car was running a little lean. The dyno-tune fixed the problem and gave me 3 tunes that I can plug in at will. A safe tune delivering 450 rwhp, an agressive tune with 480 rwhp and a race tune for the track only.

I am located in Louisiana and I strongly recommend StangHi performance in Baton Rouge. They are mustang specialists.

What does a dyno tune cost and what do they do to the vehicle when they tune it? Are they messing with the air/fuel mixture and timimg? I am not to smart on this new modular mustang. I am trying to learn.
